Teaching and Learning Plan: Using the PLC Process

As we discuss ways to align our work, Dover-Eyota Public Schools has curriculum committees that study changes in required content standards, examine student assessment/ survey data, look for gaps in learning and make recommendations on changes needed.  All teachers work in Professional Learning Communities (PLC)  to examine the essential learning required in each class and progress toward that learning.  In 2013-2014 our school district initiated a one-hour late start each Wednesday.  During that time, Professional Learning Teams meet to discuss student learning. Their discussions focus on answering four key questions:

1.  Are students learning what you're asking them to learn?
2.  How do you know they're learning it?
3.  What will you do if they aren't learning it?
4.  What will you do if they exceed your expectations?
