The City of San Carlos, formerly the country’s biggest municipality, was given a charter to become a city on July 1, 1960. Strategically situated at the center of Negros Island facing to the eastern coast, it serves as a catch-basin of different local cultures in the Visayas regions. As one of the fourteen (14) cities in Negros Occidental, it plays an important role in nation building in the field of education. For purposes of better governance and identity, the city of San Carlos was finally established as a separate school division from the division of Negros Occidental province in 1975 and thereafter it becomes one of the performing divisions among the eighteen (18) school divisions all over Region VI.
