WHAT: Introduction to coding and programming
with the iPad app Hopscotch
WHEN: Tuesdays, 11:00 - 11:45
April 30 - May 28.
WHERE: Mr. Filsinger’s 5th grade classroom
at Mary Peacock Elementary School
Student Showcase June 6 (District Board Meeting)
WHY: Using a learning-by-designing approach
our goal is to increase student exposure
to STEM subjects and careers.
It is estimated that by 2018 there will be 1.4 million
computer programming jobs with no where near
enough students graduating with
degrees to fill those jobs.
Exposing students to computer programming
will hopefully build interest and confidence
in computer science.
This project is designed to inspire students to create,
innovate and collaborate with technology.
As students learn by designing basic computer programs
on the iPad they are able to:
- think critically and solve problems
- collaborate on ideas
- progress at their own pace
- create anything they can imgaine
