Games with this mechanic have a limited amount of time to play the game. Each time you take a turn, your choices move you along a track closer to the end of the board. The amount of spaces depends on your choices. You can usually go slower by taking less grand actions, or you could take something spectacular and jump forward a lot. The game ends once all players have reached the end of the track. An example of this mechanic is Patchwork, where the pieces you select to add to your quilt have you move along the trace a certain number of spaces. Simple pieces move you a couple spots, while bigger pieces require you to move a lot.
