Welcome to Mrs. Farley's 6th and 7th Grade English Class! I am so excited to work with you this year at Walnut Street Middle School! I look forward to seeing some familiar faces and meeting some new ones as well.

Teaching your child is a tremendous responsibility and I will do my best to ensure that each student has a safe and motivating learning experience in this upcoming year. However I cannot do this without the help of you, the parents. We are partners in the learning process. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at rfarley@delanco.com!

We have a full year of fun and learning ahead of us and I cannot wait to see you all grow.

Warm Regards,
Mrs. Farley, WSMS

    Continue the Learning at Home!

Although we will try our absolute best to get your students in tip top shape, there is just not enough time in the day sometimes. With that being said, there are so many interactive and fun websites/apps that can help reinforce some of the skills and concepts being taught to your students in school. Learning is never ending and educational games can provide a fun but educational experience that your students can benefit from. Below is just a number of educational resources that you and your students can work on at home!

Classroom Management

Establishing good classroom discipline is essential to each child’s success, confidence and well-being. Every child should feel that the classroom environment is safe and secure; free from all threats of physical or emotional harm. In addition, it is important that each child learn to develop self-discipline and good work habits, to resolve conflicts peacefully, and to think independently. For these reasons, the discipline plan I have chosen has several components.

The first week of the school year, and additionally on the first day back from winter break, students are informed on the classroom expectations and classroom procedures.

A warning system has been put into effect which gives students multiple chances to change their undesirable behavior. Students are given two warnings and then the third warning will be a 45 minute teacher detention. Detention slips will be sent home for a parent/guardian to sign and bring back the assigned day of the detention.

We have also began to use a point system, with the Dojo Points! The students are so excited to begin utilizing this system in the classroom. Each student has their own "creature" and during class their creature can earn or lose points depending on behavior and participation in class. This program is a website as well as an App! Parent invites were sent home and some parents have even joined and began to follow their students behavior. If you have lost the invite feel free to email me at rfarley@delanco.com and I can absolutely send you another!
