1) Hi – I'm reading "Social LEADia: Moving Students from Digital Citizenship to Digital Leadership" by Jennifer Casa-Todd and wanted to share this quote with you.

"That’s why I love talking about students like Konner Sauve and Jeremiah Anthony,9 who have demonstrated digital leadership and made the lives of their peers better. Konner secretly created an Instagram account10 so he could brighten the day of each and every single one of his classmates, by posting something positive about them. It was only at the end of his valedictorian graduation speech that he revealed his identity. Similarly, Jeremiah, a junior in high school, used the @westhighbros Twitter handle to tweet compliments to friends and classmates."

"Research suggests it takes six positive comments to counteract one negative,8 so I believe we need to work together to reinforce the positive. As George Couros wrote in this book’s foreword, “We need to make the positives so loud that the negatives are almost impossible to hear.”"

"but it really doesn’t occur to too many of them to use these tools for learning, much less to follow posts from NASA, National Geographic, TIME for Kids, The New Yorker, or the History Channel. That’s why it’s up to us to show them what learning through social media could look like and listen to the students who have discovered online spaces for learning — and to value that learning in the classroom."

1) READ:
I'm reading "Social LEADia: Moving Students from Digital Citizenship to Digital Leadership" by Jennifer Casa-Todd and wanted to share this quote with you.

"They are confident, and they are leveraging technology and social media in ways that are creative, inventive, and in many instances are making their communities better. A perfect example is Joshua Williams who was thirteen when we “met” virtually during an EduMatch Passion Pitch in 2015. He was the keynote speaker that summer, and he spoke with impressive poise and conviction about his organization, Joshua’s Heart. What began as a personal quest to help feed the homeless has turned into an incredible not-for-profit foundation with a mission to inspire people and “bring kindness and hope into this world” and, ultimately, stomp out hunger. His belief in helping youth “be the best we can” was beyond inspiring, and he completely held his own as the only teen on a panel of adults. Joshua’s story began before he had even turned five years old when, one Sunday on his way to church, he saw a homeless man on the side of the road. Although he was too young to read the man’s sign, Joshua asked his mom about him and began to wonder about homelessness. Joshua’s grandmother had just given him a twenty-dollar bill, and he wanted to give it to the man to help him. It was at that moment, he realized everyone can make a difference, big or small, no matter how old or young they are. Joshua became passionate about his cause, so he and his family looked for an organization for him to join, but there really wasn’t anything out there for children his age. So, with the help of his mother, Joshua founded Joshua’s Heart. Together, the family began cooking and delivering food for the homeless. It started with five or ten people, and eventually they were helping 100, then 200. Joshua’s persistence has paid off: As of July 2016, Joshua’s Heart has distributed 1.3 million pounds of food to more than 240,000 individuals through the organization’s Backpack Distribution, Food Distribution, and H.O.P.E. Boxes programs, ensuring adults and children who need food receive it. Joshua uses his blog and social media accounts to promote his nonprofit as well as other causes close to his heart. Every time I speak with him online (I’m looking forward to meeting face to face), I am inspired by his positivity and zeal for helping people. He confidently says youth hold the key to changing the world, and I can’t help but agree. He is leading the way by inspiring youth to create chapters in Ohio, Connecticut, and West Palm Beach. His foundation is one of the only agencies in south Florida that accepts volunteers of all age groups; 100+ Youth Board members and 12,500 youth volunteers (called “elves”) are actively involved in helping to stomp out hunger.5"

This ad ran ONLY ONCE and then was pulled from TV because it was too controversial . . . but . . . then everybody was talking about how controversial it was . . . and it got "air time" and "focus time" anyway.
