Our reading program consists of guided reading groups and book clubs, independent reading, read alouds, and vocabulary development.

What is Bloom's Taxonomy?
Bloom's Taxonomy provides a structured questioning method that allows for students to engage in higher order thinking processes.  It gives students a framework to learn how to go deeper in their understandings by challenge themselves to move into a higher level of questioning.   There are six levels; 1)Knowledge/Remembering, 2) Comprehension/Understanding,3) Application/Applying, 4) Analysis/ Analyzing, 5) Evaluation/Evaluating, and 6)Synthesis/Creating

Our writing instruction incorporates spelling, grammar, vocabulary, and writing for different purposes.  Students are expected to write both short responses and multi-paragraphs using the 6 Trait model (organization, ideas, voice, sentence fluency, conventions, and word choice).  We will work in groups through the editing process for individual as well as group pieces.

In sixth grade we will be using a program called Wordly Wise.  The words chosen for Wordly Wise 3000 were selected to expand critical grade level vocabulary and improve reading comprehension.  Words from each lesson are commonly encountered in:

                    *Grade Level Literature

                    *Content-area reading

                      * High-stakes tests- including the PSTAT, SAT, and ACT
