Message from Principal Pekarek

May 7, 2021

Dear SCE Families,

It has been an exciting week here at SCE as we celebrate our teachers and support staff during Teacher Appreciation Week! We want to send a huge THANK YOU to our PTO for providing several snacks and meals for staff throughout this week. We also appreciate all our parents who helped cover morning and afternoon crosswalk duties for staff. What a great way to get involved and offer a few extra minutes for our teachers to take a deep breath and use that time for a little self care. You have truly made our staff feel supported and appreciated by our community, so thank you.

We have now tallied up our totals for our Wish Week Money Wars drive and t-shirt sales. We are thrilled to announce that Sand Creek has raised a total of $6,219.83 to support our Wish Week kiddo, Rynn! Congratulations to Mrs. Esparza’s class for bringing in the most money! We are so grateful to our school community for helping us raise this money for such a great cause.

Have a terrific weekend!

Proud to be an Eagle!

Notes from the Front Office

A few reminders from the Office:

  • Please call the attendance line (303-387-6602) if your student will be out or missing any time from school.
  • We have seen a trend this week that some of our younger students are losing and breaking their masks during recess.  If this is the case with your student, please send your student with a second mask in their backpack as our supply in the office runs low quickly
***There will be no community garden this summer due to construction work all summer at SCE.

Counselor Corner

Dear SCE Families,

We have made it to the end of what has been a very challenging school year for many families. Congratulations! Although summer vacation can be a nice break and offer some relief to many students and families, for others the transition can be difficult or stressful. Here are some ideas on how to have a positive summer break experience. Strategies for a Successful Summer Break

Want more fun ideas to help teach social emotional learning over the summer at home? This article has a few great ideas, too! Social Emotional Learning at Home

Looking for mental health support over the summer? There are many resources available in our community. I’ve included a list of mental health resources available in Douglas County.

I hope everyone has a safe and healthy summer!

Community Resources

Colorado Spirit Program

Because so many of our fellow community members have been impacted by the pandemic in some way or another, we are able to provide free, short-term psychological support to individuals of all ages in Douglas County and Arapahoe County.  Counselors are trained to provide support around the stress and disruption the pandemic is causing. Colorado Spirit counselors are not licensed mental health providers and do not diagnose people or treat mental illness, but we can be a listening ear, a coach around coping skills, or a connection to resources for needs related to the pandemic.

These are some of the things our team can help with:

  • Support around feelings of worry, sadness hopelessness, anger, isolation, or disconnection that life with COVID brings up

  • Understanding and managing stress

  • Help with coping strategies

  • Connection to resources

Anyone can access these support services by calling 720-707-6789, emailing, or filling out the contact form on our website
