Mountain Vista High School is pleased to announce the award of a $90,000 grant from the Morgridge Family Foundation. We are grateful for their generous support of our school. Thank you to Kent Allison, Mica Storie, AJ Deets, parent Kim Sasko, and David Larsen for pulling this successful effort together.
The money will be used for the following important academic programs: A full article may be found here.
· Biotechnology Course – $30,000 of the grant will be used to fund a new Biotechnology course and lab for the 2015-2016 school year. Biotechnology is one of the fastest growing industries in the world. This new high technology life science course will provide authentic critical thinking opportunities in Forensics, Genetics, Anatomy & Physiology, Biomimicry, and Bioengineering. Many colleges are now offering this program for students, and we will now be able to prepare our students to excel in this field with real life experiences. Biotechnology is a lab intensive science course, and students will spend most of their classroom time discovering, experimenting and inventing.
· STEM/Fabrication Lab – Mountain Vista recently completed our new Fabrication Lab for use by students, faculty, and community members. This state-of-the-art laboratory provides an environment in which students can collaborate and create imaginative new models, prototypes, and proof of concept projects. $60,000 of the grant will be used to purchase additional equipment for the lab, including 3D printers, VEX Robots and software, drones, audio enhancement equipment, measuring/testing equipment and additional wood, metal, plastic, and electronic fabrication tools.
Please Mark your calendar if you are not a vendor as it will be a great day of fun activities along with presentations and goods made by students and community members.
There will be an admission fee. The 6th grade Legacy project this year will benefit the Sand Creek Gym remodel and proceeds from the Maker Faire will go to the 6th grade project. Hope to see you there. For any questions please contact Erin.Hastedt@dcsdk12.org or student email@example.com *
