Look What's Happening in Kindergarten

Parent- Teacher Conferences
October 2, 5, 7

This week we have been reading Apple books.  We have focused on the life cycle of an apple tree discussing each season. We introduced our sight word "the" and practiced finding it in titles of books. Students are choosing books for "read to self". We also have been practicing our reading rotations: work on writing, word work, fine motor, technology and read to self.

Reading Skills:

  • Predict- Readers use their schema (what they already know) and take clues from the text and make a smart guess about what will happen in the story.

Reading Strategies:

  • Eagle Eye- Look at the picture for clues

We will be introducing writing folders this week. The students will continue to work at their own developmental level focusing on telling a story through pictures, adding a label (letters or words) and beginning to write a sentence.

We have continued to work on number sense 1-10. Students are learning number formation along with building the numbers using ten frames. We are also finishing up our beginning of the year number assessments.

Kindergarten Sight Words
Practicing these words every night, will allow your child to master these "sight" words and improve their
reading and writing!  Under the Student Resources Tab there are fun ways to practice the sight words at home.

(I will be adding words as we cover them in class.)

                                      Healthy Kids
We focus not only on physical health but also emotional health.  Being able to calm our brains and bodies is essential for learning and overall well being.  We practice breathing to facilitate this process.  We use calming jars, rainbow breathing and belly breathing as calming techniques.  We are implementing yoga moves to help us with focus, strength and calmness.
