Who Am I?

My name is Jennifer Distler, and I am the School Psychologist at Stone Mountain Elementary. I am excited to spending more time at Stone Mountain Elementary as the sole provider for the school's Mental Health services. Incredibly glad to be part of the STME family more than one day a week for the 2017/18 school year!   I will also be working with the district's BRIDGE program out of Highlands Ranch (.2, the "other" day of my work week) which provides services related to post-secondary living for students ages 18-21 with Developmental Disabilities.

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and my Master's and Educational Specialist Degrees in School Psychology at Alfred University, in Alfred, New York.  I hold national certification from the National Association of School Psychologists. I am not new to DCSD, I've been with the district since 2011, and have over 15 years experience as a School Psych, including Lead Psych, Special Education and Transition Coordinator roles. I also had the pleasure of working with the Arizona Dept. of Education as the State Wide Positive Behavior Support Specialist!

I enjoy working with a diverse student population and varied needs from Pre School to Age 21 and have worked in rural, suburban and urban settings. I believe that all students can learn and I respect the dignity and worth of the individual. I am committed to advocating for and respecting individual differences. I am invested in promoting a positive learning environment for all, and I am always learning new things and sharing information!

I believe in strengths based Cognitive Behavioral therapy; a solution-oriented or problem-solving approach and embrace family-school partnerships. believe in a strengths based approach and truly embrace family school partnerships.

I was born and raised in a suburb of Buffalo, NY (and YES, I am a die hard Buffalo Bills fan). After completing Grad School I moved to Phoenix, AZ, where I met my AMAZING husband Brian (who is also an educator). We currently live in the Denver Metro area with our 2 "children," our dogs, Elly and Jaxon and we all absolutely LOVE it here. In my free time I enjoy spending time with family and friends, traveling, cooking, reading and scrapbooking/card making.
