Walia's Homepage

Welcome to Mrs. Walia's Social Studies Class!

Hi, I am Mrs. Indira Walia. I am originally from Himatchal Pradesh, India, but I have lived in America for over 30 years now. I have 10 years of experience in middle school education. I hold two Master's Degrees: one in Political Science and the other in Instruction and Curriculum. My philosophy of education is to equip students with the necessary tools that they would need to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, and lifelong learners. In addition to being a teacher at Cresthill, I am a private Hindi language teacher as well as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Denver. I am married and have two children. Neal, the oldest, is currently working in Washington D.C, and his younger sister, Natasha, is a Civil Engineer in Denver. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, hiking, watching movies, dancing, and spending time with my family and friends. I really do love my job and really enjoy working with my middle schoolers! I am so honored to teach in such a structured, disciplined, and academically successful school.

We will study a number of countries and topics relevant to history, geography, economics, and civics and will periodically incorporate current events. See below for a listing of key 7th grade learnings.

As required by the District, your student will receive two grades for my class, content knowledge and work habits. Content knowledge grades include all work that demonstrates understanding of key learnings and content (i.e. tests, quizzes, projects…). The work habits grade reflects a student’s performance on work given for practice, coming to class prepared, using class time effectively and productively, assignment neatness, correct grammar and spelling, and turning work in on time.
