Welcome to Fourth Grade!
Meet Ms. Cooper
Dear Fourth Grade Families,
Welcome to a new school year at Bear Canyon Elementary School. I am looking forward to meeting you and have spent time this summer planning for a wonderful year. We have so many things to learn this year and I can’t wait to meet you and get started!
I’d like to tell you a little about myself. I am a Colorado native, but grew up mostly in Iowa. After attending college in Nebraska, I was thrilled to return to Colorado to begin my teaching career. This is my seventh year at Bear Canyon Elementary, although I’ve taught for 3 years at Castle Rock Elementary in 3rd grade, and 12 years at a charter school in Littleton teaching 3rd and 4th grade. In my free time I love to go hiking, read books, and spend time with family, friends, and my dog, Truman.
We will be very busy with lots of activities, projects, and creative ways to express our learning. I’m eager to get started with this new school year and to get to know this new group of 4th graders. We will learn about Colorado History, Energy, the Earth and how it changes, Life Systems, Multi-Digit Multiplication, Long Division, and expand our understanding of essential skills for the 21st Century. Students will also continue to build on technology skills and connect with the world around us. I am confident that together we’ll have a fun and productive year.
I am looking forward to meeting you at our Meet & Greet on August 7th. The schedule is included below.
Both sessions will begin in the gym with a session to meet the new principal (15-20 minutes), then will transition to classrooms.
Session 1 - 8:30-9:45 (Last names A-L)
Session 2 - 10:00-11:15 (Last names M-Z)
*Please email me at jcooper@dcsdk12.org so that I can add your email address to my 4th grade contact list. Thank you!

BCE is a healthy school.
Students are encouraged to bring a healthy snack to refuel their bodies and brains.
We will take time for snack around 10:15 AM each day.
Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle to school with them daily. This should be filled with WATER ONLY, please!
Periodically I add items to my classroom wishlist. Some items are dreams, and others are more practical. Click on the button below to see my list!
In 4th Grade, our Social Studies curriculum centers on Colorado. We like to start the year with a writing assignment! The students will write a paragraph about a place they have visited in Colorado. The assignment and all the details will be in our Google Classroom.
