About Me

My name is Carolyn Volk, and I'm thrilled to be teaching eighth grade language arts on Team Summit at Cresthill Middle School!  I grew up in Massachusetts just north of Boston and attended University of New Hampshire, where I earned degrees in English and French.  The day after graduation, I got in my car and drove west to Boulder.  After adjusting to amazing Colorado, I attended University of Colorado Boulder and received my M.A. in Secondary Education and English Certification.  I spent the first two years of my teaching career in Fort Morgan,Colorado, before coming to Douglas County.  All eighteen (!) of my years in the district have been in Parker at Sierra Middle School.  Now, I'm beginning a new chapter in my life as a teacher at Cresthill, and I couldn't be more excited!

One slightly odd fact about me is that I live, with my husband of four years and two dogs, in Georgetown, Colorado, home of the railroad, decent fishing, and great ice cream. As a result of my long commute, I have listened to (and will continue to do so) dozens of audio books by authors ranging from Jodi Picoult to Leo Tolstoy.  I love actual reading as well and, as a teacher, live to share my passion for books, as well as writing, with my students.  I also love spending time outdoors here in Colorado or anywhere near an ocean.

About Missing Work

I can be reached at (303) 387-0770, extension 62805, or at carolyn.volk@dcsdk12.org.  E-mail is the very best means for finding out exactly what a student misses on a given day; I will be able to provide the most individualized attention with this manner.  Also, students can access my classroom calendar using the tab at the top of this page.  This calendar provides a general description of what's happening in class; again, e-mail is the best way to ask questions and obtain specific instructions.  I'm looking forward to working with students and families this year!
