Learning to Read
At one magical instant in your early childhood, the page
of a book - that string of confused, alien ciphers - shivered
into meaning. Words spoke to you, gave up their secrets;
at the moment, whole universes opened.
You became, irrevocably, a reader.

from Alberto Manguel's A History of Reading

Watching Kindergartners at that magical moment is one reason why I love teaching kindergarten. It's a privilege to guide young children as the world of words becomes alive to them.  Each day in kindergarten is filled with young minds asking questions and exploring new understandings.
