Volunteers needed for Hearing and Vision Screening at LTE
Dates: Wednesday, October 3 and Thursday, October 4

Volunteers will be assisting with the hearing screening, not the vision screening. Experience is not necessary, but volunteers need to attend a 15-20-minute training and practice session prior to working with students. Because of the technical nature of the screening procedures, it is not suitable to bring smaller children along.
We hope you can help us with this important program!

Severe Weather Procedures
Due to district limitations, we are unable to text or voice message our families, so please read our new procedures listed below.

Severe Weather Procedures - including lightning

The district provides severe weather notification to the front office, and we follow their guidelines for severe conditions indicated on radar. If lightning is within a 6-mile radius, students will be contained in the building for recess or any other school activity. If severe weather happens during dismissal, we will suspend normal dismissal procedures and implement our Red Flag Dismissal Procedures.

Red Flag Dismissal Procedures

Notification of severe weather procedures going into effect during dismissal

  • Post red flags as an alert
    • AM during arrival - red flags will be posted at the front and back of the building
    • PM during dismissal - Red flags will be posted at the entry point to both pickup loops–Kindy loop and main parking area
  • Place a notice on the marquee
  • Empower parents with tools to self-monitor conditions

Pick up Procedures

  • Parents need to park cars, enter the front door or Kindergarten entry door, and proceed to classrooms.
  • Students will remain with their teacher until an authorized adult (at least 18 years old) signs them out.
  • Walkers and bike riders will be allowed to call home at 3:15 pm
  • Supervision ends at 3:30 pm so all students need to be picked up by that time
  • Students registered for Lion's Club for the day will go there as usual until released

    Update for September 7

Run4Funds Update - Thank you to all who came out to support our students yesterday at the Run4Funds. Your students came home with their lap cards and collection envelopes so they can contact their current and new sponsors to collect donations. Checks should be made payable to LTE PTO or use the link provided to you by PTO to place online pledges.

    Upcoming Run4Funds Dates...
    • Thursday, September 13, is the due date for pledges. Please make sure cash and checks, made out to LTE PTO, are in the collection envelope with each student's information on the envelope. Please return to classroom teachers.
    • Friday, September 29 - Prize day All prizes earned will either come home or be enjoyed during the school day.
    Fall Conferences -
Teachers will be scheduling Fall Conferences from now until Fall Break. Scheduled dates for after-school/evening conferences are:
    • Thursday, September 27, 3:30-7:30 pm
    • Tuesday, October 2, 3:30-7:30 pm
Teachers will be contacting you with their online "Sign Ups" for these days on or before Wednesday, September 12.

    Red Flag Days
Thanks to everyone for collaborating with us on getting our students out safely on those days when lightning is a factor during dismissal. Weather moves so quickly, it is hard to predict what the actual weather will be at 3:10 pm and if we wait until then to decide on a Red Flag Day, it complicates and lengthens dismissal. For this reason, we have determined it is best to make the decision at 2:50 pm. We will then put out the flags and text families who have signed up for notices via text that it is a Red Flag Day. Link to our LTE Weather Station Dashboard and click on ZapMap and/or radar maps to see the tools we are using to make our decisions. We also use the  WeatherBug APP.
LTE's first quarterly School Accountability Committee (SAC) meeting is Wednesday, September 12th, 3:30-5 pm in the Learning Commons. We will be discussing and voting on a resolution to support the upcoming DCSD Bond and Mill Levy Override measures on the upcoming November ballot, as well as determining the dates and time of the SAC meetings for the year.  Link here for the SAC Announcement Post: Agenda for the September 12, 2018, Meeting

Remember that all parent, staff, and community members are welcome and encouraged to attend our SAC meetings!!

    Child Passenger Safety
Erin Brill, Child Passenger Saftey Technician, is one of our parents and presented valuable information about this topic at the Principal's Coffee. We encourage everyone to watch this video. Thanks!

    Safety Considerations While Driving
Please make sure to drive slowly and cautiously once you enter our parking lots and school property. There are so many things happening at once, especially during carpool times, that we all need to drop our phones, slow down and think of student safety and the safety of others. Thank you!

Late last spring the Douglas County School District adopted i-Ready as the READ Act assessment for all schools. At LTE it replaces Istation and there are many similarities between the two programs. The biggest difference is that i-Ready provides a single K-12 adaptive diagnostic assessment for reading and math and provides an instructional component for grades K-8 which will be available at school and at home for our students. Following the assessment, each child is placed into their own personalized online instruction plan. Kindergarten students will not be assessed until mid-September and for this reason, their instructional lessons will not be available until the week of September 24We will provide more opportunities to learn about i-Ready in the near future. Update for August 2

    posted Aug 2, 2018, 10:53 AM by LTE Webmaster   [ updated Aug 2, 2018, 12:43 PM ]

Back to School News from DCSD
As has been communicated by the district, DCSD Back to School, they are transitioning to a new online payment system for student fees called MySchoolBucks. During this transition, they have encountered a couple of bugs, which they are working on fixing.
    • Partial payments cannot be made toward your fees
    • LTE cannot add fees for recently enrolled students
We will send out communication as these issues are resolved. If you have any questions, please contact Shawna Bloom at Shawna.Bloom@dcsdk12.org

The first day of school is Thursday, August 9!
We are so excited to welcome our community of learners and families to an exciting new school year! Teachers will be reaching out to their families via email with more specific information on Monday, August 6.

Since this is our first year without a Classroom Connection Day prior to the first day of school, we are implementing a couple new procedures.

Arriving and Lining Up on the First Day
Students will line up, with their supplies, at the regular designated spots that will be used all year. Teachers will be outside beginning at 8 am to help supervise and guide students to the appropriate areas. Plese refer to the map in this post, and please review all of our  Arrival & Departure Procedures/Maps.  Please note that parents may not enter the building, but are free to accompany students to the outside line-up areas to say their goodbyes. For younger students having a hard time carrying their supplies, we will provide help once they are lined up.
Dropping off medicine to Health Office
Once students are in line, parents needing to drop off medicine to our Health Office may do so by entering the front doors only.

Both the main loop and the bus loop area are available for drop-off. An adult wearing a bright traffic vest will help children out of the car in both loops. For safety purposes, no one in the vehicle may exit on the driver's side. If an adult wants to assist a student to the line-up areas, they must park in a lot across the street or in an available spot in our school parking lot.

Please refer once again to our previous post as needed:
