Update for November 16

posted Nov 16, 2018, 9:19 AM by Kay Tucker   [ updated Nov 16, 2018, 11:09 AM ]

Enjoy your break! November 19-23
Happy Thanksgiving!

In the spirit of gratitude for what we have...
And in support of others who do not have as much...
We are sharing the following options for giving.

Shoes and socks...socks and shoes...all for Clothes to Kids!

We are so excited to be sponsoring a "NEW Shoes and NEW Socks" drive for Clothes to Kids. Clothes to Kids Denver collects donated items to fill their boutique-like clothing store where families who do not have the money to buy clothes can go and shop for free. This is of so much importance as more than 204,000 students in the Denver Metro Area are from low-income families and qualify to shop for free at this store. Last year they fulfilled the needs of 9,000 students in PK-12 and this year their goal is to meet the demand of 10,000 students. Gift Card Drive for Denver Children's Home -
Denver Children’s Home cares for children who have experienced trauma, abuse and/or neglect and have at least one severe mental health diagnosis. They currently have 29 residential girls and boys aged between 9 and 18. Please read this letter from Emma, Molly & Elsa Barker to see how they are working to support this cause and how you can join in as well.

  • Incoming Kindergartners Enrollment - If you have an incoming Kindergartner for the 2019/2020 school year, don’t forget to open enroll by December 3rd. We anticipate that our kindergarten classes will fill during the first round and don’t want any siblings to miss enrollment.
  • Middle School Open Enrollment - Please link to Middle School Open Enrollment for 2019/2020 where there is valuable information for our current 5th and 6th-grade students.
If you have any questions about this information please contact Carin Buster, Registrar at cbuster@dcsdk12.org or 303-387-7454.

Carpool Reminder - Two-lane traffic during drop-off and pick up
During drop-off and pick-up times, if you turn right into the main loop, please make sure to form 2 lanes of one-way traffic heading to the drop-off zone and then alternate as it narrows to one. This helps to keep traffic from backing up on Heritage Hills Circle. Once pick up is over the lanes in this area return to two-way.

Shoes and socks...socks and shoes
...all for Clothes to Kids!

Here’s how we are working to make a difference for this non-profit organization.

Lone Tree Elementary is having a "New Shoes and New Socks Drive" for Clothes to Kids Denver

  • Donations will be collected for two weeks, from Monday, November 26, through Friday, December 7
  • Each pair of new shoes or a package of new socks will count as one item.
  • The winning class will then experience the gift of giving as they deliver the shoes and socks to Clothes to Kids sometime during the week of December 10th-14th.
  • Sizes requested:
    • Socks - kid/youth XS through adult sizes
    • Shoes -  8T through Adult Size 17 (most needed sizes are Kids 10 to Youth 5)

This drive will also kick off Lone Tree Elementary hosting a clothing donation bin in the vestibule by the front office. This will be a receptacle provided for anyone in our community to drop off gently used, washed clothing to donate to Clothes to Kids Denver throughout the school year.

We are excited to be partnering with this organization and thank you for actively joining in as we try to make a difference!

Our plans are always to have the parade take place outside if at all possible. If we need to move the parade inside, we will notify our community that morning. Please make yourself familiar with both procedures/routes: Halloween Celebrations

Students know they should wear their costumes to school but will need to bring a change of clothes to change into at the end of our celebration. Halloween is a free dress day. Please note that no face paint or hair dye is allowed and students may not bring any simulation of a weapon as part of their costume. We do not monitor masks.
