To Parents of the Graduating Class of 2017,

The graduation ceremony for the Class of 2017 is rapidly approaching. I know that each of you is as anxious as I am for a glorious celebration. As you are aware, the ceremony will be held at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre at 2:00 p.m., on May 17, 2017.  I write this letter to ask for your support to ensure a memorable event.  Highlands Ranch High School is required to have contingency plans in case of severe or dangerous weather.  You will find the contingency plan for Highlands Ranch High School on the "Graduation Day Info" tab.

The ceremony is a celebration for family and students.  It will be a dignified event to remember for a lifetime.  We have expectations for every member of the class that, we know you will agree, are appropriate. We ask that seniors show respect for classmates by dressing properly for graduation.  Shorts, blue jeans, tennis shoes, flip flops, or casual sandals will not be allowed. Girls will wear dresses or nice slacks, according to the weather.  Because of the amount of walking, shoes should be low-heeled or flat.  Boys will wear slacks with a dress shirt. A tie is recommended. Graduates may not wear any item (other than honor cords or stoles) with or on the gown or mortar board (cap).  Any graduate found to be inappropriately dressed will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony.

Appropriate behavior expectations will be shared with the graduating class.  In past ceremonies we have had a few disruptions during the graduation exercise.  If a student’s behavior is deemed unacceptable by administration, the student will not be allowed to continue in the graduation ceremony, and, if necessary, the diploma will be held until such time that a meeting can be scheduled with me, the student, and his/her parents.  Commencement is a formal and dignified ceremony that may occur only once in a lifetime; dignified behavior is also expected of all guests and spectators.  Excessive applause or cheering for a specific student diminishes the experience for all students and families.  Please be sensitive to this fact.  Standing or filming/recording in the aisles will not be permitted during the ceremony.  Again, we ask that you help us assure that final memories of the school reflect the many positive achievements of the Class of 2017.  To this end, we ask that you and your graduating senior print, review and sign the expectations outlined on the ‘Behavior Expectations for Graduation’ form (linked below) and return this to the Main Office Receptionist by Friday, April 28, 2017.  Students who fail to return this form will not be allowed to participate in the commencement ceremony.

This is also a reminder that all Community Service hours must be completed, documented, and turned in to the Counseling Office by 7:45 a.m., April 28, 2017.  In addition, all fines, fees, books, and equipment must be paid for or returned to Highlands Ranch High School no less than 48 hours before graduation.  Please check the parent portal for your student’s current balance of fees. Outstanding monies must be paid in full
no less than 48 hours before a student is allowed to participate in graduation.  If seniors have not met these requirements, Douglas County School District policy requires us to withhold diplomas.

In closing, let me take this opportunity to congratulate each of you for the support you have given your student(s) during the past four years.  I am sure you are as proud of their accomplishments as I am.  We hope that this is only the beginning to your student’s journey of “Soaring for Excellence”.

Sincerely,
Christopher R. Page, Jr.
Principal
