Congratulations to our Apple Award Winners 2016-2017

Every year, the Douglas County Educational Foundation (DCEF), in cooperation with the Douglas County School District (DCSD) celebrates the work of its teachers, support staff and administrators. Eagle Ridge Elementary is proud to announce our two Apple Award winners, Laura Schaffer and Linda Lieber.

Laura Schaffer has been at Eagle Ridge for two years as a math teacher for 6th graders, but has been here much longer as both her children went to Eagle Ridge.  Laura comes from a long line of mathematicians and engineers and is working hard to get our 6th graders ready for Middle School Math.  Hannah Mack, a sixth grade student, has Mrs. Schaffer for math. When asked what makes Mrs. Schaffer a great teacher, she said, “She is very understanding and patient when things get difficult. She makes our two hour block of math very fun and I learn new everyday. One thing that I especially admire is that she is so outgoing!? Mrs. Schaffer is a dedicated educator who spends time tutoring students during her spare time, hosts homework clubs and is always looking for new ways to engage her students in math. Not only is Laura a great teacher but she is a valuable member of the ERE staff; training new teachers in the 7 Habits, a member of our Lighthouse team and always being one of the first to help out!!!

Linda Leiber is celebrating her 14th year working in Douglas County Schools. Linda came to ERE with a finance background and quickly found her calling to work with children. During her years at DCSD she has completed her Masters in School Counseling at the University of Phoenix. She loves working at ERE with our MTSS model focusing on literacy and writing to help our students become outstanding readers and writers.  She has devoted her time here to help improve the learning processes for all our students. One parent of a third grader says that “Mrs. Leiber works diligently with students understanding where are they are and then finding ways for them to achieve their best.” Under Mrs. Leiber’s tutelage, this child has made a year in a half of growth in six months. Although this growth is quite impressive, what is most amazing is the difference in this child’s confidence. He now believes in himself and that he is the best reader at Eagle Ridge! Mrs. Leiber’s impact extends beyond this one child; she works with over fifty students a year!!

Congratulations to our Apple Award Winners 2015-2016

Each year, the Douglas County Educational Foundation, in cooperation with the Douglas County School District, celebrates excellence and innovation in education by recognizing the best teachers, support staff and administrators in the district.  This year Eagle Ridge is proud to have two amazing Apple Award nominees, Jill Cahenzli and Brian Cortez!  The Awards Ceremony will take place early next year.

Jill Cahenzli is a Second Grade Teacher here at Eagle Ridge.  She has been at Eagle Ridge for nine years – first as a health teacher for two years and then as a classroom teacher for the past seven years.  She even did her Student Teaching here at Eagle Ridge!  She attended Metro State University. In her spare time, she has a cake pops business (Cake Batter Bakery) with her sister and loves to bake, play volleyball and spoil her one year old niece!

Brian Cortez is our Head Custodian who has been nominated in the Building Engineer category.  This is his second school year at Eagle Ridge and fourth in the school district.  He previously worked at Ponderosa High School as a Security Guard and worked as a maintenance floater in the district as well.  He studied airplane and car mechanics at Redstone College.  In his spare time, he likes to work on cars, watch sports (he is a Raiders fan!), hang out with his American Bulldog named Ellie and play sports such as softball in the summer. He loves working at Eagle Ridge because he loves helping everybody!
