Carla Sassano, M.S.
Staff Wellness Coordinator
Douglas County School District
West Support Center
701 Prairie Hawk Drive
Castle Rock, CO 80109(Direct): 720-433-1596
I have a B.S. in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing and a M.S. in Sports and Exercise Science with a post-baccalaureate in Physical Education.
My passion for health and wellness goes way back. I have always been active with competitive fast-pitch softball, track and cross-country as my main sports and hiking and cross-country skiing as my past-time interests. I have also always loved working out with weights and have spent a lot of time in the gym from the age of 15 on. While I was residing in New York City as a flight attendant, I decided to get certified as a personal trainer. In 1995 I received a certification from the American Council on Exercise and continued with certifications in post-rehabilitation and nutrition. I started my own personal training business, Shapes by Carla, LLC in 1996, which turned out to be extremely prosperous. I have trained clients from actors, stuntmen, and athletes to businessmen and women who were interested in losing weight or getting in shape. After years of educating adults, I knew it was time to teach individuals at a much younger age, which is what lead to me to obtaining a teaching license in physical education. I have taught both physical education and health in the Adams 12 School District, Mesa Valley School District and was blessed to find my way back home to the Douglas County School District.
I was very fortunate to have been given this opportunity to
put together a Staff Wellness Program for the Douglas County School District as a teacher on special assignment. I am even more fortunate to now to be housed under the Benefits Department as your full time Staff Wellness Coordinator. My belief is that it is important to
educate and motivate educational employees in the areas of health and wellness so
that they in turn can role model and teach our kids the importance of physical
activity, good nutrition, and an all around positive well being. I am currently on the Wellness Oversight Committee, DCSD 5K Committee, Health Advisory Committee, and lead a Staff Wellness Committee as well as a group of truly Super Champions.
I reside in Douglas County with my husband and seven
year old boy who attends Sedalia Elementary. We also have two dogs (who think they are human) and 12 chickens (not to eat!!). I currently completed my 6th marathon achieving a personal record of 3:43:29 and placing first in my division of 88 women!!! Hello Boston Marathon!
I look forward to serving the employees of the Douglas County School District!
