Hello and welcome to the 2024-2025 school year!

Please join the Google Classroom for your class.  I'll be posting anything you'll need for class on those pages.

Spanish- learning method

We'll be using the comprehensible input method for learning Spanish.  In order to get a feel for immersion, (not submersion!) we'll be watching a Disney telenovela for teenagers called Violetta.  This is a great way to learn a language as we'll be hearing native speakers using everyday vocabulary and speaking at a normal pace.

It may seem intimidating at first, but we will be going over the vocabulary before we watch small clips.  We'll practice using the words and phrases, then we'll watch a short clip from the show where they will be using the same vocabulary that we just discussed.  After we watch the clip, we'll breakdown what we saw and heard and have a small, informal quiz for comprehension.

We will discuss the clips, students will be encouraged to speak at a level comfortable for them- using as much Spanish as they can mixed in with English until they become more confident, and using more Spanish.

French- learning method

Be ready to communicate from the first day!  The first steps in learning a new language is listening and understanding.  Just like when we learned to speak as babies, we listened before we tried to imitate the words and sounds we heard.

In a level 1 class, I like to emphasize listening and reading while adding in some scripted conversations.  We'll listen to and watch short clips of authentic conversations in French from various programs.  We'll watch or listen at least three times, while focusing on targeted vocab for that lesson.

At this level, we want to build confidence in communicating.
