Meet Mrs. Dempsey...

Hi! My name is Kristina (Kristi) Dempsey. I was born in Grosse Pointe, Michigan and moved to Wilmette, Illinois when I was 5 and lived there through high school. I fell in love with Colorado when visiting my sister when she went to CSU and have lived in this beautiful state for 25 years. I live in Highlands Ranch with my husband, Craig, my 18 year old son, Brody, my 12 year old daughter, Nola, and 5 year old welsh terrier, Durban. I love to travel and have been to South Africa where my husband was born and raised, many countries in Europe, Asia, and to many wonderful states in the USA.

I LOVE learning and take advantage of as many opportunities as possible to continue my education. I earned my B.A. in Secondary Education and Spanish from Purdue University, an M.A. in Elementary Education from UCD, and an M.A. in Leadership and Administration from Regis University. I studied abroad in Spain and Mexico to immerse myself in the culture and language of those countries.  I am a Healthy Schools Leader and keep current on the latest brain research and its impact on learning and day to day functioning. I take many classes in DCSD and will be providing staff development again this year on the MindUp program which is a brain-based self-regulation and social/emotional program.  I am excited about this opportunity and to bring the benefits of this program to the classroom.

It is my goal to provide a safe, stable, rigorous, and welcoming classroom community. This year your child will grow educationally, socially, and will be successful with self-regulation. Your child’s success will be fostered by the partnership between you, me, your child, and the BCE family.

This year will be my 17th at BCE and 23rd overall. I am SO excited about this upcoming year and all that we will accomplish.

Meet Mrs. Schlegel...

Hi! My name is Jill Schlegel and I feel privileged to be your child's third grade teacher! I am originally from Michigan and moved to Colorado when I was thirteen. I graduated high school from the American School in Paris, France and received both my bachelors and masters degrees in education from the University of Northern Colorado. I have been teaching for 23 years, the last 13 at Bear Canyon. I taught first grade for 20 years and am starting my fourth year in third grade.

I have been married for 17 years to my husband, Robert. He works for the State of Colorado’s OPS division. We have two boys, Connor, 14 years old, and Benjamin, eight years old. Connor attended BCE and is now a freshman at Mountain Vista High School. Benjamin currently attends BCE in second grade. As a family we enjoy mountain sports like camping, dirt biking, and skiing. In my free time I enjoy walking our dog, Boomer, reading, scrapbooking, and garage sale "shopping".

My philosophy of education is to educate the whole child and support them as a life long learner. I take my job very seriously and treat the students in my classroom as I would want my own children to be treated. I believe it takes the triad of parent/student/teacher working together to achieve the goal of the best educational experience possible.

I look forward to a great year together!

Jill Schlegel
