Mrs. Radke's 3rd Graders are so Sharp!

Latest News from Mrs. Radke:

Can you believe there are only three weeks left of school?! The year has flown by but there is still so much ahead!

We had such a wonderful time on our field trip! Thank you to our fabulous parent volunteers who hung out with our kiddos! Our class saw dragons, learned about folklore, and even experienced how some dragons are created in movies.

Next week, May 21 and 22, we will be MAP testing. Please make sure your child has had plenty of sleep and a delicious, protein-packed breakfast!

Reading with Radke has been a huge success! Every Wednesday at 7:00 PM, I go live on Facebook to read a story. Students who tune in are able to listen, interact, and accumulate their AR points. I also give a secret word that, when written in your child's planner, gives a special Dojo point. If you would like your child to participate, just login to Facebook, search 'Reading with Radke' into the search bar and 'like' the page. After doing so, you will be notified of live feed and updates.

Please continue to check your child's grades on Infinite Campus! It's not too late to get your username and password from the front office.

As the year comes to a close, I am too busy with end-of-year happenings and will no longer be offering tutoring. If you feel your child needs help, they are able to see me before school and during lunch.

Finally, there will be several fun happenings in the weeks to come! Please keep an eye out for donations and/or opportunities to volunteer. I'd like to end this year with a bang!

Thank you for supporting our class and your child. YOU are the most important in their life!

Math: We are starting Module 7 and beginning geometry! If you have difficulty helping your child with his/her math homework, there is help! Go to the 'Other Resources' at the top of this page and click. Then, scroll down to 'Eureka Math'. Follow the directions to Duane Habecker's YouTube videos.

Language Arts: We are writing our final narrative essays based on fictional characters we've created. Students are polishing their writing skills and can now use commas, question marks, and quotations appropriately. Please encourage your child to use complete sentences when writing anything! This helps them practice and reinforce their skills.

You should be so proud of your child who has grown in reading! EVERY student has increased their reading accuracy and fluency. We even have a few who've grown over TWO years and we're not done yet!

Social Studies: We will be learning about Douglas County! Do you know why we celebrate Carson Valley Days or how Gardnerville received its name? Your child will!

Science: We are in the thick of weather and are working on climate zones. Students are working in groups to dress their favorite artist on tour. This means they are required to locate the city and country, compare maps to identify the correct climate zone, and determine the area's average temperature. So far, the kids have had the best time working with Ariana Grande, Marshmello, Imagine Dragons, Keith Urban, and Post Malone.

Once the project is complete, we will be wrapping up our unit with severe weather: blizzards, hurricanes, and tornadoes (OH MY!).

Our class has a goal of reading 500 chapter books this year. Currently, we have read 466!
