Mission Statement

At Cornatzer Elementary, we encourage all students to try all activities and to do their best. We will perform activities that encourage students to become physically fit and to help students understand the benefit in participation in physical activity over the course of a lifetime. Students are also given the opportunity to use strategic thinking to aid in success of skills as well as learning how show good character during and after play.

About Me

This is my 17th year of teaching. I spent four years teaching in high school before coming to Cornatzer Elementary in 2010. I have a bachelor's degree from UNC Greensboro in Exercise & Sport Science with concentrations in K-12 Physical Education and Sports Medicine as well as a degree in History.

I am married to my wonderful and beautiful wife, Kala, and we have two children: our son Chase (9) and daughter McKenna (7) who both attend Cornatzer and our black lab named Duke.

In my spare time I am usually carting my kids from one place to another (baseball, softball, gymnastics, football, basketball, cheerleading, soccer). When I have the time I enjoy exercising, training for marathons and triathlons, working in my yard at home, being active in my church and watching Alabama Crimson Tide football.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION AT CORNATZER:

Students will have P.E. 2-3 times per week depending on the A/B week schedule. Your child will have P.E. every Monday and Thursday or every Tuesday and Friday and then every other Wednesday.

Closed-toed gym shoes are REQUIRED for P.E. This is a safety issue so this means no flip-flops, sandals, Crocs, high heels and any kind of boots (hiking, cowboy, work, snow or rain). Students are allowed to wear these to school but will need to bring a pair of gym shoes to change into. Repeated offenses will result in warnings and eventually alternative activities assigned.

The main fabric of physical education is movement. A growing body and mind needs exercise. We will perform a multitude of different activities throughout the year including various team sports (basketball, soccer, volleyball, kickball, etc.), individual games and activities (tennis/badminton, gymnastics, etc), various other elementary games (tag, relay races, strategy and invasion) and a general fitness curriculum and fitness testing three times per year.

Students are simply asked to try each activity and to do their best. There is no grading based on ability. Students are encouraged to perform each day to the best of their ability and to have fun while positively interacting with classmates and being a good teammate or partner when the lessons call for it.
