Welcome

Welcome to art! My name is Mrs. Angela Rockwell. I am the art teacher for both Cooleemee and Pinebrook Elementary. I graduated from UNCG with a BFA in art education and I love to make pottery.

I am married and have two children. My daughter is fourteen and my son is nine. My husband and I love to run. We completed our first half-marathon in April of 2013 and our children completed their first 5k in May of 2014. We look forward to completing more races. My family and I enjoy doing outdoor activities with each other. I also enjoy gardening.

I am a working artist. I make functional pottery on the wheel. I love working with clay and creating with my hands. Pottery is my passion.

Check back often to see what students are doing in art class and to find fun art links. The side bar to the left will have information for each grade level.

This year is going to be an exciting year! I look forward to bringing my passion for the arts to the children of Davie County.

We would not be able to do the clay projects and all the other special art we are able to experience. Thank you for your support!

9/11/16-9/17/16

Whether you are a student, educator, parent, or principal, you can find a way to celebrate the arts in education during National Arts in Education Week. The arts are an essential part of a complete education, no matter if it happens in the home, school, or community. Students of all ages—from kindergarten to college to creative aging programs—benefit from artistic learning, innovative thinking, and creativity. Celebrating National Arts in Education Week is a way to recognize this impact and share the message with friends, family, and communities.

8/24/16- Welcome back. Another school year is about to begin! I hope everyone had a restful summer. I look forward to making art with our wonderful Davie County children.

May 2016
Thank you to all who came out to Arts Smart. It was a huge success! It was so wonderful to see so many people, young and not so young, participating in the events. I enjoyed it very much.

There are just a few more art classes left in the school year. Look for artwork from throughout the year to be coming home with your child. We will probably only have time for one or two more projects with all the end of year events that come up this time of year. Summer is just around the corner. I have enjoyed another wonderful year in Davie County. Thank you for sharing your children with me.

Ashley for the Arts- Arts Smart Festival is just a few weeks away. We are busy getting artwork ready for the event.
Please join us Saturday, May 7th from 1-5 at Davie High. There will be performances, art displayed, demonstrations, make-and-take art projects, and much more. It is free and open to the public. We look forward to seeing you there.

3/15/16- Spring is in the air! The weather is beautiful and flowers are booming! The official start to spring is just a week away. We are trying to complete some new projects in the art room so that all those snowmen and snowy scenes can come off the walls and warmer, brighter projects can pop up instead!

2/19/16- Art from our schools will be well represented next month! During March we will have art hung at Bojangles, the Mocksville Credit Union, and the Brock. I will be sending letters home at the end of this month to let you know if you have art in one of the shows. You all do an amazing job and I love helping you create beautiful works of art. Thanks for representing our schools so well.

2/2/2016- Cooleemee will be having a Family Art and Curriculum night Thursday, February 4th. Cooleemee families and students will visit their classrooms and complete an art project that goes along with either literacy or math. Student art from their art enhancement will be hung in each classroom. We will also have a special art show set up in the media center with one piece of art from each class. Those that come will get to vote on their favorite work of art at the show. The top three with the most votes will get framed and hung in the media center. It will be a fun night of art!
5:00 - Dinner
5:30- Art making in the classrooms
6:00- Art Show and Book Fair in the Media Center

9/13/13- Pinebrook Elementary finished the school project today! What a fantastic job by fantastic students!

9/8/13- Students in grades K-5 are hard at work on their self-portraits using only their table color in art class! It has been a challenge for many to only use colors like blue or green for their hair and skin. The monochromatic drawings are turning out amazing! Check out some of these works in progress.

Look for the finished piece...coming soon to a school near you! All self-portraits will be hung together in one large installation piece in the school. Ask your child about the other installation pieces we viewed in art class. We saw come pretty impressive work!
