Hayestown Procedures and Policies
All adults, including parents visiting our school, must stop in the office first to sign in and to get an I.D. Badge. To enter the building you must announce yourself through the intercom system to be granted entry into the building. All exterior doors will remain locked throughout the day and evening.
Regular and prompt attendance at school is very important for your child’s learning. Please see that they are in school on time each day. The building opens at 8:00am and children must be in their classroom ready to learn by 8:25. Children who arrive late must check in at the office and be escorted by an adult. When your child is absent from school because of illness, or for any other reason, parents are required to notify the school each day of their absence at (203)797-4739. If an absence of three or more days is anticipated, please call the school nurse. If there will be prolonged absence for family vacation or other reasons, please inform the office as soon as possible.
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures:
Students who are being dropped off to school in the mornings should NOT be dropped off prior to 8:00 AM. There is no adult supervision prior to that time. All students must wait in the entrance way of the school, and will be permitted to walk to their classrooms at 8:00 AM. Parents are NOT permitted to walk with students to their classrooms in the morning. Parents who need to conduct any school business in the morning must report to the Main Office and speak with the secretary.
Parents who are picking up their children in the afternoon should line up outside the gym doors. The doors will be opened at 2:55PM where the students will be waiting for parents. Teachers who are supervising parent pickup will dismiss children to their parents from the back of the gym. We appreciate your patience as we take time to ensure appropriate dismissal of each child. Parents will not be permitted to walk through the building or visit classrooms after dismissal.
Questions regarding transportation (routes, stops, late buses, etc) should be directed to the bus company – 203-797-4728.
Breakfast is available each morning from 8:00 A.M. until 8:25 A.M. Students purchase tickets each Monday or on a daily basis. Breakfast is not available on delayed opening days.
Your child has the option of bringing in a bag lunch, purchasing milk or purchasing a lunch. Hot lunch is served every school day, including half days. Lunch tickets are sold on a weekly basis, but can be purchased daily. A menu will be sent home every month. Students order lunch choice with their classroom teacher for the next school day.
All children should bring a small healthy snack and drink each day. Your child’s drink should be water or juice, not soda. School does not provide snack for students.
The PTO meets once a month, usually on a Tuesday at 5:30 PM. All parents are encouraged to attend the monthly meetings and the various PTO activities throughout the year.

Before and After School Programs
Before and after school supervision is available through the Extended Learning Program. Call (203) 830-6518 for registration details.
STUDENTS MAY NOT BE DROPPED OFF PRIOR TO 8:00AM UNLESS THEY ARE ENROLLED IN THE BEFORE SCHOOL PROGRAM.
Parking on the upper level is limited. There is no parking in front of the school where buses drop off and pick up. There is no parking around the circle. When visiting the school, please park on the lower level and enter the building through the main entrance near the office.
