Future Freshman Night

Future Freshman Curriculum Information Night : January 14, 2021

This event will be a combination of synchronous and asynchronous presentations allowing 8th grade students and families to meet the St. Charles North administrative team, interact with their counselor about high school and the course selection process, and explore the different course and elective options available at our school.

FRESHMAN WELLNESS COURSE OFFERINGS:


ADAPTED PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Grade(s): 9, 10, 11, 12

Length/Credit: 1 semester / 0.5

Prerequisite: None

This is a modified Physical Education class for students that are unable to participate in the regular Physical Education classes due to a disability. The program is designed to accommodate each student’s needs as he/she participates in lifetime leisure and fitness activities.


DRIVER EDUCATION

Grade(s): 9, 10, 11, 12

Length/Credit: 1 semester / 0.5

Prerequisite: Meet age restrictions by the Secretary of State (fall semester, course WH3021, is for grades 10-12 and for those age 16 by February 1. Spring semester, course WH3022, is for grades 9-12, and age 15 by the first day of the second semester.) Students who hold a current Illinois permit or Driver’s License can take the Driver Education course during summer school. Students will be scheduled by birth date order.

Fee: $400

This course is an integrated, four-phase Driver Education Program that includes instruction and practice in the classroom, simulation lab, driving range, and behind the wheel. Students will demonstrate knowledge of state driving laws along with safe, responsible driving skills in various driving environments. Students will complete up to six hours of driving the course of the semester.


HEALTH

Grade(s): 9, 10, 11, 12

Length/Credit: 1 semester / 0.5

Prerequisite: None

Through classroom activities, guest speakers, and hands on practice, students will develop health skills including decision making, communication, refusal skills, and resiliency within the basic concepts of health. Students will demonstrate skills, knowledge, practices, and attitudes towards personal Health promotion. Students will apply these health related skills to assist in making informed choices throughout their lifetime.


PHYSICAL EDUCATION I

Grade(s): 9

Length/Credit: 1 semester / 0.5

Prerequisite: None

This course focuses on the basic fitness concepts and their relationship to lifetime fitness activities. Students will enhance their understanding of health and skill related fitness components through physical activities, use of fitness technology, classroom lessons, team initiatives, aquatics.
