Statement About Grades

I posted this statement last year. My sentiments remain the same.

Please do not ask me to round up your grades. It is true that a few students just missed getting an A for the semester, but it is also true that several students finished the semester with final percentages in the mid to upper nineties. Those students truly distinguished themselves from their classmates--they deserve the highest grade possible in our system.

Unfortunately, I am not able to give pluses and minuses. If I could do so, students with, say, averages in the high eighties or high seventies would receive higher grades than their classmates with averages in the low eighties or low seventies. For now, the range of percentages for a particular grade, especially the B, is very wide, which means our grades are not particularly accurate and some students feel they've been treated unfairly. Maybe someone should talk to the school board about this issue.
