By the end of class on Friday, January 10: Read Romeo and Juliet 1.1 and answer study questions. I will collect the study questions on the day of the quiz.
For Monday, Jan. 13: Read 1.2 and answer study questions. We read 1.3 together in class.
For Tuesday, Jan. 14: Read 1.4 and answer study questions.
For Wednesday, Jan. 15: Be ready for a quiz on Act 1.
For Tuesday, January 21: Type Act 1 mini-essays. Submit them via turnitin.com and Google Classroom. Be sure to complete your proofreading form/contract.
In class on Tuesday, January 21: Read 2.1-2.2 and answer study questions. We will read 2.3 in class.
For Wednesday, January 22: Read 2.3 and answer study questions.
For Thursday, January 23: Read 2.4 and answer study questions. We will read 2.5-6 in class.
Quiz on Act 2 is on Friday, January 24
For Tuesday, January 28: Complete Act 2 mini-essay. (See link above for mini-essay assignments and planning sheets.)
For Wednesday, January 29: Finish 3.1 and 3.2 and answer the study questions.
In class on Wednesday, January 29: Read 3.4-3.5 and answer the study questions.
For Thursday, January 30: Read 4.1 and answer study questions.
For Friday, January 31: Finish 4.2-4.5 study questions. Be ready for a quiz on Acts 3 and 4.
For Monday, February 3: Read 5.1 and answer study questions.
For Monday, February 10: Complete your essay on Romeo and Juliet. Submit it on turnitincom. We will brainstorm for topics and evidence. Start working now.
Act 1 mini-essay rewrites are due on Tuesday, February 11.
The week of February 10 we will watch a film version of Shakespeare's comedy Much Ado About Nothing. You should take notes on the characters. I will collect these notes from you.
For Tuesday, February 18: Read pp.1-76 in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. Be ready for a quiz. Also, Act 2 Mini-essay rewrites are due.
Friday, February 21: Quiz on pp. 76-155.
Wednesday, February 25: Two mini-essays on Curious Incident (up through p. 155) are due. In each typed mini-essay you must:
--state your claim
--elaborate on your claim or explain it
--introduce your evidence
--present at least three specific examples as evidence (tell stories)
--quote the text at least three times
--explain clearly how each piece of evidence supports your claim
--restate your claim
Also, submit both mini-essays as one document on turnitin.com. Print the receipt and hand it in with your essays.
Here are your possible topics or questions for these essays:
1. Describe Christopher so far.
2. Describe one memorable scene. Explain why it is notable. (Note: you won't need three examples here, but do quote the text at least three times. Show us the key moments in this scene.)
3. Respond to one of his ideas. First summarize it. And quote Christopher. Your evidence in this mini-essay should be your examples that support your response to to his idea. So you don't need three pieces of evidence from the novel.
4. Is this book humorous so far?
