Use Present Tense When You Discuss Fiction
For Monday, Aug. 19: Type one mini-essay about the first section of Chapter 1(pp.9-14). Choose one of the claims from today's class activity. What is a Mini-essay? In this double-spaced, typed essay (12-point Times New Roman!), you should:
--begin with a clear claim that mentions the novel's title and author
--explain your claim and preview your evidence
--present at least three full examples as evidence
--include a short quotation in each example
--integrate each quotation into your sentences
--cite the page number of each quotation
--explain each piece of evidence
--conclude your mini-essay with a restatement of your claim, using different words
