January, 2020--Welcome back to Spring Semester. (That's a hopeful description.)
Odyssey Study Guide Odyssey Study Questions
In class on Monday, January 6: Read Book 6 and answer questions 1-7. If you are new to my class and you have not read any of the Odyssey, then you will start at the beginning and read book 1 and answer the study questions. When we go to the computer lab, you will complete the Book 1 mini-essay. (Your classmates wrote these essays last semester.) If you are coming from a class in which you read the Odyssey last semester, you will complete the same essays as your new classmates. I will provide you with the study questions that will help you on these assignments. Or you could click the link above and look through them yourself.
In class on Tuesday, January 7: Plan two mini-essays, one that describes Odysseus, using evidence from Books 1 and 4, and another about divine aid (help from the gods) in the Odyssey so far. (Books 1,4, 5, and 6). Odyssey mini-essays
In the computer lab on Wednesday, January 8 through Friday, January 10, we will work in on these mini-essays. They are due at the end of class on Friday, January 10.

In class on Monday, January 13 we will read Odyssey 8.509-657 and answer questions 1-4.
For Tuesday, January 14: Read 9.1-240 and answer questions 1-6.
For Wednesday, January 15: Read 9.241-630 and answer questions 7-16.
For Thursday, January 16: Read Odyssey 10 and answer questions 1-12.
For Friday, January 17: Read Odyssey 11 and answer questions 1-6.
For Tuesday, January 21: Read Odyssey 12 and answer questions 1-7.
In class you must show me the the evidence you will present in your mini-essay about Odysseus' leadership. Here's what you must do:
1. Collect all your study questions and put them in order.
2. Staple them together.
3. Circle the answers that you plan to use in your mini-essay.
4. Get my signature on these questions by the end of class.
By the end of class in the computer lab on Thursday, January 23: Complete a mini-essay answering this question: Is Odysseus a good leader? You may only use evidence from your study questions. And you must hand in those study questions with your completed essay.
We will plan the Sirens essay on Monday, January 27 and work on it in the computer lab on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 28 and 29.
By the end of class in the computer lab on Wednesday, January 29: Complete the mini-essay in which you compare someone or something to the Sirens. Sirens Mini-essay
