Impact, the Freshmen Mentor Program, provides Niles North Freshmen with a supportive environment that helps ease the adjustment from middle school to high school. The responsibilities of a mentor include:

  • Communicate and work well with others
  • Provide a positive role model within the school and community
  • Help create a safe environment by building a trusting relationship with Freshmen students
  • Establish a positive relationship with individual freshmen to promote a feelings of welcome and comfort with their new school
  • Assist freshmen students with high school orientation, understanding school policies and learning about available resources
  • Encourage freshmen to participate in clubs, activities, fine arts and athletics
  • Attending assigned freshmen homeroom two times per week
  • Attending IMpact Mentor trainings - Junuary, May and August
  • Attending Impact Mentor Program meetings monthly
  • Attend training for the NAMES Assembly and serve as small group co-facilitators for NAMES break out sessions

Becoming a Mentor - If you are interested in becoming a mentor, you will need to complete the required application and submit it to the sponsors by the announced deadline. This is a competitive process, and you will need to demonstrate good attendance, citizenship and grades. You will also need the support of your counselor, your dean and at least two teachers. You may also be asked to complete an interview as part of the process.
