Niles North is proud to offer free ImPACT Concussion testing to all student athletes. ImPACT is a user-friendly on-line computer based testing program specifically designed for the management of sports-related concussions. ImPACT measures multiple aspects of cognitive functioning in athletes, including: attention span, working memory, sustained and selective attention time, response variability, non-verbal problem solving, and reaction time.
We require every athlete to complete a baseline ImPACT test so that we can establish what a healthy and normal score is for that athlete. In the event that an athlete does sustain a concussion, we re-test them to objectively evaluate the concussed athlete's post-injury condition to track their recovery for safe return to play, thus preventing the cumulative effects of concussions. We can also email the results directly to the athlete’s physician so that their progress can be assessed.
ImPACT is currently the most widely utilized computerized program in the world and is implemented effectively across high school, collegiate, and professional levels of sport participation. Athletes will take a baseline test every two years(taken as a freshmen and a junior). We are very excited to add this neurocognitive testing to help in the evaluation process of head injuries.
