The children should enter the building through the office door and wait for me on the kindergarten bench in the foyer. I will escort the children to the classroom.

Dismissal Times

Morning Class: 11:25 a.m.
Afternoon Class: 3:05 p.m.

At dismissal times, an adult will escort the children out the front kindergarten door at the south end of the building on Oak Street. The children who ride the bus will be escorted to board their bus. If there is a day when your bus riding child will not be riding on the bus, please send me a note. Without a note or a phone call to the office notifying us of this change, I must put the child on the bus.

Communication Between Home and School

Your child will bring home a special "take home" folder to use to hold papers, pictures, school communications, and later class books for sharing at home.  Please check this folder every day.  Keep the papers that are sent home, and return the take home folder to school the next day. If you would like to send a note to me, please put it in your child’s folder.

There will also be formal times set aside for communication each year.  There will be a parent/teacher conference for each child in November.  Report cards are sent home three times during the school year.

Please feel free to call me (630-861-4344) or email me if you ever have a question or concern. (snichols@d181.org)  Please know that the phone will not ring in my classroom during the school day, but if you leave a message, I will get back to you as soon as possible.  If need be, we may schedule a conference at any time during the school year.  Just let me know, and we will set up a convenient time to meet.  If you need immediate assistance, please call the Oak School office (630-861-4300) and someone will deliver the message to me.

I want to make your child's kindergarten birthday a memorable one.  If you wish, you may join us in this celebration by bringing in a birthday book to read to our class.  This book may be donated to our class library, or you may just take it home.  Please tell me what day you want to celebrate your child’s birthday, and I'll tell you the best time in our day for this to take place.

If your child has a summer birthday, you may wish to celebrate this day on your child's half year birthday, or on a day closer to the end of school.  Please talk this over with your child.  They may not want to do a celebration in class and that's all right too.

Special Classes

Your child will have two 25 minute gym classes, one 45 minute art period, two 20 minute music classes, and one 30 minute technology learning time, in the MRC.  All of these classes will be taught by teacher specialists in each field.  The children will go to other rooms in the school for these classes.  The children will also go to the MRC to select a book to take home and read.  They my keep the book for one week and return it and select another.  If they forget their book, don’t worry, they will still be able to select a book.

Our gym teachers have requested that each child keep a pair of gym shoes at school to wear to gym classes.  These shoes should be labeled clearly with your child's name and will be kept in the cubbies in the hall.  The children should also have an art cover up to keep their clothes clean while in their art class.  This could be an old T-shirt or smock.

Book Orders

I will be sending home book order/computer software forms for you to order quality children books and software at a special school discounted price.  This is an excellent way to build your home library.  We receive bonus points from the things that are purchased, and I am able to get more books and materials for our classroom through this program.   You may place an order on line using the classroom code.  All books that are ordered are sent to the school, and I will distribute them to the children whose parents placed an order.

If you have any questions you may reach me at school (630-861-4344) or by email at: snichols@d181.org
