Did you know? Our district has been participating in the South Cook Mathematics Initiative since 2010. This initiative has helped teachers learn new techniques to engage students in improving their mathematics learning. As a part of the initiative, all students in grades 6-8 have worked on problem-solving tasks from the Mathematics Assessment Resource Service (MARS Tasks). Students have been highly engaged in working on these tasks, and lessons using these tasks have often been quite effective at moving students’ understanding forward. During the first week in April, all students in Grades 6-8 will take a mathematics performance assessment composed of five MARS tasks. This assessment is designed to examine how well students can apply their mathematical skill in problem solving situations. For more information, click here: SCMI MARS tasks
