Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation co-founded the Cypress Hills Community School in 1997 with the NYC Board of Education and a group of activist parents. The school was opened the doors to its newly built permanent location on the corner of Warwick & Atlantic on September 10, 2010, after many years of being housed inside an intermediate school and portable classrooms, and now serves students in grades K-8.
- Dual language curriculum: all students learn their subjects in both English and Spanish.
- Parent Governance: Parents are actively involved in all levels of decision-making at the school, and the school is led by parent and teacher co-directors.
- Our school has small class size, with no more than 18-20 students per classroom, so that all students receive individual attention from teachers.
- CHLDC sponsors an afterschool program for 260 students at PS 89. We are proud to partner with TASC and to work in deep partnership with the school administration to offer ExpandED learning to students at PS 89.
