Conventions

Conventions are the important finishing touches to any piece of writing. They help others to read your work and understand it clearly. Conventions include:
  • Grammar
  • Spelling
  • Punctuation
  • Capital Letters
  • Neatness


Try asking yourself these questions to check over the conventions in your writing:


  • Did I apply my strategies to help spell words correctly?
  • Did I use my resources to help spell unknown words?
  • Did I spell all or most of my words correctly?
  • Did I remember correct punctuation?
  • Did I check for capital letters?
  • Did I edit my writing to check for grammar mistakes?
  • Does my writing make sense when I read it aloud?
  • Is my handwriting neat and easy for others to read?
  • Does this work show my personal best?
