Immersion Days – Using Contexts to Develop  Literacy skills Across the Curriculum

This 3 day programme (2 full days and 2 half days) will introduce ‘Immersion Days’, demonstrating how pupils have a multi-sensory experience of a topic to generate higher order questions and ideas for learning. Following immersion days, teachers plan the topic scheme of work, aligning the skills against the pupil’s generated ideas and questions.

The programme will show how this collaborative learning has enabled pupils and staff to apply the Literacy and Numeracy Framework in a highly creative way enabling pupils to have a clear understanding of their own learning.

‘Effective leadership of  Literacy across the curriculum’

This programme provides leaders with effective strategies that have been used to develop and promote literacy across the curriculum with an emphasis on the importance of successful leadership of the Literacy and Numeracy Framework. Approaches and processes for monitoring literacy across the curriculum will be explored. The school will share effective practice demonstrating strategies for transferring literacy skills across the curriculum.

This enquiry-led programme will draw upon the proven success of targeting higher attainers and increasing the number of expected level/outcome plus one at Cyfarthfa Park Primary. The school will share their development of a whole-school approach towards challenging higher attainers, effective practice within this and resources which have had a significant impact on standards.
