YouTube Users at The College of Westchester

Welcome to all YouTube users at The College of Westchester!

Students, staff, and faculty at The College of Westchester, especially students and faculty in online and flex courses, may be asked to create online videos to share in their courses.

Rules of the Road

Here are a few pointers for creating videos to use in your College of Westchester courses:

  1. Never upload video files directly to the Moodle site. Not only is Moodle a slow and unreliable way to host video, but videos uploaded to Moodle take up a significant portion of our permitted file storage. If our hosting service asks us to do so, we may be forced to remove video files from Moodle without prior notice.
  2. The Instructional Technology & Design team at CW strongly encourages faculty to host their videos with YouTube.
  3. Students may host videos on any hosting service they like, as long as their instructors and classmates can easily view and access the video. Moodle works especially well with YouTube and Vimeo. Since we support most Google Applications, we especially recommend that students also choose YouTube.
  4. As of Spring 2013, any Instructional Technology & Design cannot assist users who chooses to use a video hosting service other YouTube (or, in certain cases, Google Drive).

YouTube is an especially robust and popular video service and has several features that post videos from a wide variety of sources while controlling who can see your videos.

Getting Ready to Use YouTube

To use YouTube, do the following:

    • If you need to create a Google Account, you can create either personal Google account or a CW Google account for students or for staff and faculty.
    • If you need to reset your password, you can do so from any login page for a personal Google account. For a CW account, we've provide password reset forms for students and faculty.
  2. If you're on a desktop or laptop computer, make sure you have a current version of Flash installed. If not, you can download Flash Player.
  3. Visit YouTube and log in to your account.
