Core
Welcome to 7th Grade Core! This class is a combination of Language Arts and Social Studies. Your child will earn two letter grades for this class. The student's grade will be determined from a cumulative total of points. Points will be earned from classroom participation, quizzes, tests, projects, and homework.

Students must always be prepared with the necessary materials for class. Students should always have at least two pencils, a pen, binder paper, colored pencils or crayons, and a pleasure reading book. Having these items is the student's responsibility. If a student is not meeting these responsibilities, there will be consequences to help shape behavior.

All work will have assigned due dates. I DO NOT ACCEPT LATE WORK. If a student does not have his/her work on the due date, he/she will receive a zero for the assignment. On most occasions, if a student is absent on the day an assignment is due, the work will be accepted when the student returns to school. There will be several major projects that will only be accepted by the deadline, whether or not the student is in school. Students and parents will be informed of these projects and deadlines well in advance.

If a student is copying another student's work, it is considered cheating. Both parties involved will receive zeroes for the assignments in question and a parent signature will be required on the assignments.

If a student is issued sentences for misbehavior, the sentences are always due the following school day with a parent signature. If the student does not have the required number of sentences the following day, the required number of sentences doubles. If on the following day the student still doesn't have the required number of sentences, a behavior referral is the automatic consequence. The student will not be admitted back into class until the sentences have been completed.

If at any time you have questions, comments,or concerns, please feel free to contact me at school. The phone number is 754-2137. My email address is mbrainerd@calaveras.k12.ca.us or you can send a written note. I will always promptly return phone calls, email, or notes. I encourage and appreciate your input. Email is the best way for us to connect so we don't end up playing phone tag.
