At its regular meeting on January 11, 2010, the Board of Education approved a budget reduction list sufficient to cover the nearly $5 million projected deficit in the 2010-2011 school year (The Board of Education originally received this budget reduction list for information on December 8, 2009).

This list included:

  Potential Savings
 Class Size Reduction (30:1)
 $3.00 million
 Custodial Night Crew Staffing Reduction
 $1.00 million
 District Office Classified Positions
 $0.40 million
 Summer School
 $0.30 million
 GATE $0.13 million
 Teacher Resource Center Staffing
 $0.12 million

The Board of Education approved the budget reduction list with the best information available at the moment in order to meet the legally required timelines to be able to open school next year.

This approved budget reduction list provides the district the flexibility to give advanced notice regarding the potential loss of positions, but it is not set in stone and will be refined as more information becomes available.
