Guidance Office

HOBY's Advanced Leadership Academy is for high school juniors and seniors who want to lead others and make a positive impact in their communities. Students spend five days in our college-prep program developing leadership values and skills, while collaborating with other students, as each create a personla action plan for social change.  This will be Jul 6-11 at Loyola University Chicago's Lake Shore Campus.

Students can learn more and register themselves at this    link: HOBY or stop by the guidance office for more  information.

College Day Form

posted Sep 21, 2015, 6:53 AM by Brandon Stewart   [ updated Sep 21, 2015, 6:53 AM ]

Each senior may have one college day. The student may take a full day to visit a school or university; however, the student is allowed only a half day to visit a junior college in the immediate area. The absence is considered to be an excused pre-arranged absence. Seniors are encouraged to attend open houses and tours on nonattendance days, such as Columbus Day or School Improvement days. Many colleges now host open houses on holidays in order to accommodate potential students' schedules.

The following procedure should be followed in order for the day to count as a pre-arranged absence day.

·      Visit with counselor to

ü  Discuss arrangements/appointments at the college

v Return completed form(available at bottom of page) to counselor with parent signature

v Get a pre-arranged absence slip from secretary and show it to every teacher

v Visit college

ü Ask lots of questions

ü  Secure a letter stating your presence
