Scores/Highlights

“ The team did well playing even, ahead, and behind in the score tonight. They stayed relaxed and played one point at a time.Overall I was pleased with how they played being the first match of the season, but we have some work to do. Mount Carmel is always a fun match as we have a lot of respect for their coaches, know most of their players, and have so many friends in the community as well. “  - Coach

 - HIGHLIGHTS: Most Aces - Jaylyn Wease(4), Most Kills - Chloe Britton(9), Most Assists - Paige Tewell(12), Most Digs - Cherub Mohler(9), Most Blocks - Jaidyn Yarber(2)

"Overall very happy with the way the team played tonight against the always tough Robinson Maroons. Nerves got the best of us in the first set and we fell behind a quick six points, but played them pretty close the rest of the set. Second set we executed well and played aggressive. Third set we got stuck in two rotations and just gave up too many points. The team is playing hard and together, they have handled adversity well and continue to grow." - Coach
 - LHS loss in three sets: 15-25, 25-21,16-25
 - HIGHLIGHTS: Most Aces - Elizabeth Steffey(2), Most Kills - Chloe Britton(14), Most Assists - Paige Tewell(14), Most Digs - Cherub Mohler(21), Most Blocks - Jaylyn Wease (2)

"Not the weekend or the record we were expecting. We looked tired and played flat for most of the day. There were some great rallies and several players were able to execute individual things they had been working on which was nice to see. As a team we didn't play consistently well and that makes wins difficult to come by." - Coach
 - LHS Scores:
     Loss vs. Oblong 19-26, 23-25

     Loss vs Bement 11-25, 25-15, 8-15

"We played well tonight, but just not consistently. We didn't start well offensively and dug a hole in the first match, fought back, and then gave it up at the end. In the second match we had the lead for most of the match then got stuck in two rotations and were outscored 10 to 1. Hard to put wins together when you play that streaky. Both our passing and serving were much improved tonight which has been a big focus in practice. Oblong played a great match, they are scrappy, and did a great job attacking the ball while putting up a tough block. All our matches with Oblong have been close the last three years and they have a 3-2 advantage right now, we get another shot Saturday at the Robinson Tournament." - Coach
 - LHS  Loss in two sets: 20-25 22-25
 - HIGHLIGHTS: Most Aces - Paige Tewell(1), Most Kills - Jaylyn Wease(9), Most Assists - Paige Tewell(10), Most Digs - Chloe Britton(12), Most Blocks - Chloe Britton(2)

"We tried some different things this weekend and struggled at times with the adjustments, but that is part of the challenge for a young team. We need to learn to approach challenges with a growth mindset. We would rather challenge them than predetermine limitations for them. The girls have shown improvement in several areas and need to continue working on blocking and balancing the floor defensively. Offensively we have been strong, but we need to push ourselves to stay up tempo as much as possible." - Coach

"We worked with another rotation tonight which was a challenge given we didn't have any practice time since the tournament on Saturday. We aren't letting inexperience hold us back, but it does create some interesting challenges at times. Overall we played well, just too many unforced errors at critical moments. We struggle to both gain and maintain momentum at times. Overall I was pleased with the effort put forth by the team. We are seeing sparks of improvement especially in blocking and the middle attack. We will continue to focus on those areas as well as serve receive. We play at Olney on Thursday and they are always tough, especially at home. We will continue to focus on our goals and work to improve against great competition." - Coach

"South Knox was a tough match-up for us. They served aggressively, balanced their attack well, and played tremendous defense. We didn't have many attack errors, but just couldn't terminate for points. Our block was much better tonight and we will continue to work on that as well as serve receive. My biggest concern is we seem to be satisfied playing well with the occasional set or match win. I would like to see more intensity from the girls and a desire to push for as many points as possible. While playing well overall, we are much better than we are playing, and can't seem to commit to giving our best effort both individually and as a team for an entire set or match." - Coach

  • 9/14/17
"Paris is a good match-up for us, but we struggled with consistency and unforced errors were our downfall. Many errors are from the youth and inexperience of our team, but we need to continue working to reduce those errors. Offense has been our biggest strength this season, but we have struggled to generate offensive momentum the last two matches. The team gets a few days off over the homecoming weekend then he head to Newton next Thursday which will be a tough match." - Coach
LHS Loss in two: 19-25 17-25
- HIGHLIGHTS: Most Aces - Paige Tewell(2), Most Kills - Chloe Britton(8), Most Assists - Paige Tewell(6), Most Digs - Cherub Mohler(10), Most Blocks - Jaidyn Yarber(1)

  • 9/24/17
"We continue to struggle with serve receive, it is hard to be competitive when you are making passing errors one out of every three attempts (33%). It is strictly a mental issue as they have shown that they are capable of passing well. It affects your ability to run an offense and the overall rhythm of the team. Elizabeth Steffey had a solid weekend defensively and from the service line, Chloe Britton had another strong overall performance, and Cherub Mohler served four tough serves at the end of set one against Dugger to bring us from behind for the win." - Coach
 -  LHS vs Dugger - Win in 2; 26-24 25-16
    LHS vs Rivet - Loss in 2; 11-25 15-25
HIGHLIGHTS: Most Aces - Chloe Britton (6), Most Kills - Chloe Britton(19), Most Assists - Paige Tewell(22), Most Digs - Chloe Britton(9), Most Blocks - Jaidyn Yarber/Chloe Britton (2)

  • 9/26/17
"We started slow tonight and struggled a little during serve receive in the beginning. The team played through and we played even for the middle third of the set, a few unforced errors at the net and a couple missed serves cost us the momentum we were gaining. In the second set the team settled in and started playing to their ability and we had a scrappy second set and after several lead changes lost 23-25. Overall I was proud of the team and hope we can carry that momentum in to the Casey-Westfield match Thursday." - Coach
 - LHS Loss in 2: 15-25 23-25
 - HIGHLIGHTS: Most Aces -  Chloe Britton (8), Most Kills - Chloe Britton(12), Most Assists - Paige Tewell(11), Most Digs - Cherub Mohler(12), Most Blocks - Celina Aase(2)

  • 9/28/17
"I was proud of the effort and hustle from the team tonight. They carried momentum in to the match from Tuesday and played for every point while never giving up. We dug a hole early in the first set and fought back for the win including several long rallies. The second set we had a short mental breakdown and allowed Casey a five point run on unforced errors, but again fought back and were in it at the end. In the third set we gave up a couple short runs, missed a few serves, and made a couple unforced errors that made it a more difficult set. Everyone contributed tonight which is what it takes to be competitive. Cherub Mohler, Jaylyn Wease and Kylie Routien had big nights tonight and Chloe Britton had a solid all around performance as well. Paige Tewell set a great match and both Paige and Elizabeth Steffey were solid defensively." - Coach

"We started slow and didn't play well as a whole. We had some adversity early in the day against Tuscola and Armstrong as the sun was directly on our side of the court, but the other teams did better at managing that adversity than we did. We almost muscled out a win against Armstrong and did so against Chrisman. Chloe Britton broke the record for most kills in a match (Breanna Mefford - 22) with 24 Kills versus Chrisman while hitting a 0.528 efficiency and 67% kill percentage." - Coach

"We didn't play bad tonight, but were flat in energy and enthusiasm. We missed a few more serves than normal and had a few breakdowns in serve receive which made the biggest difference. Robinson did a good job keeping the pressure on and we had to play out of system a lot. It was one of our stronger showings away at Robinson, but I feel we went in without the confidence needed to fight for the win." - Coach

"We had a solid all-around performance from the entire team tonight. We had a small mental let down in the first set, but worked through it and finished strong. It is always tough for us when we play Red Hill and Mt. Carmel; so many of the players are friends and as coaches we want all of them to have success. Sometimes the win goes our way and sometimes it goes theirs. Red Hill did a good job working their serve to our gaps and seams, they were also aggressive on blocking and defense. " - Coach

"It was Senior Night for our three seniors, Celina Aase, Cherub Mohler and Jaylyn Wease against a tough Clay City (23-3) team. The seniors and entire team had a great night and it was a fun match. We had great contributions from our seniors and the rest of the team as well. Even though we didn't pull out the win we were close in both sets and played with energy and enthusiasm. I was pleased with the effort and happy for the seniors and team to finish strong in the last home match of the season." - Coach

"We had three starters out tonight with injury or illness so several players were ask to play in different roles or step-up to help varsity. It created some issues for us in the first set and Marshall served extremely well compounding the problems. In the second set we settled in more played a decent set, but a few too many unforced errors to pull out the win. The team played hard, never hung their heads and I was proud of their efforts." - Coach
