                              Coach Trinity Britton:
"Overall solid day for Lawrenceville volleyball; we had a tough pool and we had to fight through two tough matches before facing North Knox (three time tournament champions). They are a high caliber team who runs a fast offense and makes very few mistakes. Following the North Knox match the team was visibly tired and made too many unforced errors against Martinsville. I was happy with the teams effort and that they fought for every point in all four matches today regardless of the score or situation."

Lawrenceville vs Hutsonville 09/04
Result: Lawrenceville Win in 3: 25-16 18-25 25-13
Coach Trinity Britton:
"We had a very solid first and third sets tonight; the last half of the the third set the team was playing in rhythm and balancing the floor well which was really fun to watch. In the second set we made a few non-typical errors, had a few too many unforced errors and a couple of calls didn't go our way. We have to continue working on the mental piece of the game, both individually and as a team. Some credit to Hutsonville who served aggressively all night and had several hustle plays and saved balls/rallies. There were many swings tonight that would typically have been kills, but they found a way to keep the ball alive."

Lawrenceville Win in 5: 17-25 12-25 25-16 25-15 15-12
Coach Trinity Britton
"We have historically struggled in Rivet's gym and tonight was no different, at least in the beginning. We started in a little bit of a performance rut and just could not find a rhythm in the first two sets. Luckily we were playing in Indiana so had the best of 5 opportunity to work our way through it.  I love the fight in this team and the never give up demeanor they have cultivated, It would be nice to settle in to a rhythm early and not have to always come from behind. Some of it is because we are a young team, but we need to work on ways to create synergy earlier in matches. That will be a focus in the few practice days we have left."
"We were never really in the first or second sets falling behind early in both and never really able to close the gap. In the third set we had the lead until they tied it up at 14-14; from there we went on two separate runs (4 pts and 5 pts) to win 25-15. In the fourth set we had the lead from beginning to end and steadily opened the gap as the set progressed. In the fifth and final set it was back and forth with ties at 3s, 5s, 7s, and 8s, but we opened at window at 11-8 and was able to maintain that lead to 15-12."

Lawrenceville vs Dugger 09/17
JV Results: LHS win in 2: 25-20 25-23
Varsity Results LHS win in 2: 25-12 25-10
Coach Trinity Britton
"The team played well tonight and stayed focused on the task at hand. Our goal tonight was to execute the small details well and minimize unforced errors. Although the scores may not reflect it Dugger is a scrappy team and you cannot take them lightly. There were several long rallies where they were able to keep the ball alive and a few times they caught us flat footed. Overall I was happy with the teams communication and movement on the court which can be a challenge for us at times."

"We didn't play well at all the first match. We looked tired and played very sluggish throughout. The schedule from the previous two weeks (10 matches in 12 days) caught up with us I think. In the second match we started to play with a little more energy and hustle, but we still didn't play to our normal level and made several non-typical errors. Both Tuscola and Tri-County are tough teams, but we didn't give them the fight we normally would have. Credit to the team for regrouping for the third match and playing with more energy and reducing the unforced errors for the win."

Lawrenceville Vs Robinson 10/02
LHS JV Loss in Two: 14-25 13-25
LHS Varsity Loss in Three: 25-27 25-23 17-25
Coach Trinity Britton
"Overall the team played well against a very tough opponent. Robinson is a very disciplined team, making very few mistakes. They balance their floor well on defense and keep pressure on their opponents extremely well. We started out strong from both the serve line and offensively. We played pretty clean through the first set, but were slow on the defensive read and allowed them too many points without getting a hand on the ball. In the second set we managed the game well and played pretty even throughout, the biggest difference in the second set was we played clean and Robinson had six serve errors to our three. In the third set we tightened up and let the emotions of the night get to us a couple of times allowing them some short runs. We did not pass well at all in the third set, while Robinson passed extremely well and stepped up their defensive efforts. We just were not able to mount much of an offensive attack in the third set and had too many unforced errors. Robinson is a great program and we have a lot of respect for both their coaches and players. To go three with them and have had chances to win the match is a good night overall. We have a nice break here and the team will get a few days off for recovery, school work and homecoming. Back in the gym Tuesday to prepare for the last three matches of the regular season."

Varsity Results: Lawrenceville Win in 2

Coach Trinity Britton:
"Great win against Oblong tonight, they are always scrappy and play hard for every point. Was a little concerned going to a non-air-conditioned gym with how hot it has been the last two days, but the team handled it well. Very proud of the middles tonight, they continue to improve every match and it is great to get them more involved in the offense. Overall there are a lot of great things on both Junior Varsity and Varsity, but there are still some bugs  to work out and details that need dialed in. We have a couple of practice days ahead of us before the Robinson tournament so our goal will be to focus on those areas and be ready to put up a fight Saturday."

Lawrenceville vs Olney 09/06

Result: Lawrenceville Win in 3: 10-25 25-23 15-19
Coach Trinity Britton
"Quality win against a tough Richland County team; great way to start conference play. We started out cold in the first set and never really found a rhythm. In the second set it was back and forth until 15-15 and we dug ourselves a hole falling behind by 4 at 18-22. I love that the team never gives up and just keeps playing. Score was tied at 22-22 and 23-23 before kills by Tewell and Britton put us over the top at 25-23. In the third set we started a cold again falling behind by 6 before tying the score at 13-13 and again at 14-14. From that point they had found their rhythm pulling ahead for the win 25-19. When the team is loose and playing in rhythm they show what they are really capable of, we need to continue working on the mental piece and clean up some of the unforced errors to avoid digging the holes we find ourselves in. Overall I am pleased with the hustle, attitude and play that they team is showing. The players not on the court have done a great job supporting and cheering for their team as well!"

Varsity Results: Loss in 2 - 18-25 14-25
Coach Trinity Britton
"Paris is a tough team, they balance their offense well and play solid defense with a strong block. You have to bring your “A” game when you play them and we just didn’t have it tonight.  We were visibly tired and with Paige Tewell out (ankle injury) we struggled to get the offense going in the first set. In the second set we switched the lineup to a 5-1 and the wheels fell off in regards to passing and unforced errors. The team has played tough all season, but this was just one of those nights we didn’t have it. They will bounce back as we head to Charleston. Credit to Paris for playing a great match with lots of energy."

Lawrenceville vs Newton 09/20
JV Lost in two: 11-25 16-25
Varsity Lost in three: 25-23 15-25 22-25
Coach Trinity Britton
"Very proud of the teams effort tonight. They had a tough opponent in Newton and had to deal with some adversity outside their control when a few calls didn't go our way in the third set. Proud that they were able to regroup and continued to fight.

Newton is a tough team that puts pressure on your side of the court for the entire match. They are relentless with their serve and have multiple attack options. When we managed the serve well we competed pretty evenly overall.

In the first set it was back and forth for most of the set before we dug a small hole and had to come back. In the second set we were neck in neck until 13 points when they went on two big runs. We had our chances in the third set, but the couple of missed calls and six missed serves (Newton had zero) was too much to overcome.

Note: Chloe Britton broke the single season kill record (Breanna Mefford 305 - 2015) in tonight's match. She currently has 310 season to date."

"Solid win tonight, anytime you can get a conference win on the road its a good night. Happy with the teams all-around play and how they stayed focused. We balanced the floor on defense  and offensively we were attacking from multiple locations and with multiple hitters. Passing and overall defense were both solid with very few unforced errors. Happy to get the win, now we get ready for Casey-West-field Thursday."

Coach Trinity Britton
"Another solid conference win on the road! Proud of the teams play overall and especially the way we are balancing the floor defensively. It has been a focus point of us and we are staring to really grasp the team defense concept. We played well in the first match and had a 18-9 lead where we lost some focus and let them outscore us until 22-19 where we pulled back ahead for the win at 25-19. Our primary focus in the second set was to keep doing all the things we were doing, but also maintain our focus and level of execution for the entire set. The team did a great job and we only had a couple of unforced errors while maintaining pressure throughout the match. The team will get a couple days off and we will be back in the gym Monday to prepare for a home conference match against Robinson on Tuesday 10/2."

"Overall it was a great day for Indians Volleyball at the Hutsonville Tournament with a 3-1 finish for second place. We made rotation adjustments following the Robinson match last week that seemed to help the teams rhythm on the floor. It was great to have everyone contributing and to see them enjoying the game. The team played hard and fought through some tough matches including coming from behind against Hutsonville in the second set. We had a rough patch in the second sets against both Martinsville and Robinson where we struggled mentally so that is an area we we need to continue focusing on  developing and strengthening."

Varsity Results: LHS Win in 2: 25-20 25-11
                         Coach Trinity Britton
"It was a tougher night than the scores might let on with adversity on both sides of the net that the teams had to overcome. A medical emergency at the end of the Junior Varsity match for a South Knox player had both teams visibly upset. Proud of both teams for huddling together to focus on the well being of another player. On our side of the net we are dealing with some injuries; Chloe Britton playing with a sprained wrist from the Rivet match and Paige Tewell rolling an ankle towards the end of the first varsity set tonight. The team continues to adapt and rise to the occasion, overcoming adversity on a regular occasion. I am most proud of how every player on the team has been supportive of each other and different players stepping up on different nights to help the team. Junior Varsity played a great match tonight as well and we are seeing improvement in their play each week!"

 Charleston Invitational Tournament
LHS record for Saturday 9/15: 2-3
vs Mattoon Loss in 2: 14-25 16-25
vs Teutopolis Loss in 2: 11-25 10-25
vs MacArthur Win in 2: 25-20 25-16
vs Meridian Loss in 3: 25-16 21-25 13-15
vs Hutsonville Win in 3: 25-20 20-25 15-9
Coach Trinity Britton
"They have posted overall results, but Mattoon finished 1st and Carbondale finished 2nd.

When adding the Charleston tournament we knew we would be facing larger and more mature schools; we felt it would be a good learning opportunity. Our goal was to come out of the weekend with two or three wins as far as results, but the experience gained is hard to measure or to replicate in practice.
We played well against Mattoon but, they are a solid team and made very few mistakes. Teutopolis played us really tough; I was disappointed in our overall effort and competitive spirit in the match, but understand from a players perspective how tough that can be when facing certain competition. We were better matched against MacArthur and played well. We had a mental let down against Meridian; after winning the first set we lost a 17-11 lead in the second to force a third set. In the third we dug a hole early and didn't mount our comeback until too late. Hutsonville was the last match and both teams were visibly tired, but we played well overall.
We have several players fighting injuries and soreness, playing in the gym without air conditioning all day was also tough on the team. Overall I was proud of their effort and willingness to fight for points. There were numerous hustle plays and almost everyone was on the floor at some point."

Varsity: LHS win in two 25-11 25-18
Coach Trinity Britton
"Third conference win on the road in the last three weeks which is great. We had a long break since the Robinson match so I was a concerned we would come out flat. The team did a good job finding a rhythm early and played pretty consistently most of the night. Red Hill has improved considerably since we saw them play early in the season. They had some great plays on both the offensive and defensive sides and they served well throughout the match. Next week is a big week with the last regular season matches against Clay City and Marshall. We will be working to dial in some details as we get ready for those matches and regionals the week after."

JV Results: LHS loss in two 19-25 18-25
Varsity Results: LHS loss in three 21-25 25-15 21-25
Coach Britton
"We struggled tonight finding and maintaining a rhythm, especially with serve receive in sets one and two. Seventeen passing errors and overall passing quality really effected our ability to run an effective offense. We also didn't balance the floor defensively most of the night and got caught standing or reacting late instead of anticipating. Clay City did an excellent job serving tough, but we have played well against equally good and better serving teams this season. They were scrappy on defense and kept many balls alive that would have typically been points for us. We will put in work tomorrow in practice preparing for Marshall on Thursday. It is a big match as it is senior night and a win means a third place (tied with Robinson) conference finish."
