Cumberland School District Elementary Guidance Curriculum Goals

Personal/Social Domain:

The elementary students will demonstrate self-awareness including an overall understanding of themselves, (abilities, strengths, weaknesses, etc...). In addition, they will develop an understanding and respect for diversity. They will apply this self-knowledge by making decisions on how to solve interpersonal conflicts to promote safe and healthy behavior and utilize coping skills to manage life events.

Academic Domain:

The elementary students will demonstrate how effort and persistence positively affect their achievement by applying study skills, time management, organizational skills, decision-making and problem-solving skills. In addition, they will build competence, responsibility and confidence as learners by communicating for help and utilizing their own learning styles to become lifelong learners.

Career Domain:

The elementary students will acquire and demonstrate that school is a responsibility they have to prepare them to make informed decisions about their future. They will understand the relationship between educational achievement and career development including linking skills, values, and abilities to career choices.

The Mission of the Cumberland School Department's School Counseling Program is to provide all students with opportunities for academic, career, and personal/social growth and development as they prepare to become responsible contributing members of a global society through a partnership with school, home and local community.
