Alumni in the News

The opportunity to participate in decorating the White House grounds for President and Mrs. Obama’s 2010 Halloween party was a very special honor for this Illinois-based family business. Five members of the Condill family (Bruce, Mac, Ginny, Buck and Shana) drove a rented U-Haul truck to Washington DC to set up and staff a world class cucurbit display.  Bruce & Mary Beth (McDonald) Condill, Owners, are both 1965 alums of Culver-Stockton College. Growing nearly 300 varieties of pumpkins, squash and gourds, The Great Pumpkin Patch represents the ultimate celebration of cucurbits. The Great Pumpkin Patch is located on the 200-acre McDonald-Condill family farm in the heart of Amish country in Arthur, Illinois. The farm has been in the McDonald-Condill family for over 150 years and is where TGPP owners Bruce and Mary Beth (McDonald) Condill lived, farmed, raised their children and started the business of “growing a few pumpkins.” Bruce and Mary Beth, twin sons Mac and Buck, along with eldest brother Kit and their wives have each contributed expertise, creativity and hours of loving labor to evolving The Great Pumpkin Patch into a very special fall destination in Central Illinois.  Visit www.the200acres.com for more information.

During the Korean Conflict he was recalled to active duty as an officer in the Army Signal Corps where he served from 1951 to 1952. He returned to Culver-Stockton to continue teaching, and served as Chairman of the Science Division until 1965.  He continued his teaching career at Illinois College until his retirement in 1994.  Mr. Franz was known for his humor, his love of words, his eccentricities, his love for learning and teaching and his integrity and sense of justice.  He was dedicated to his students.  His wife, Mary, resides in Jacksonville, Ill.  If you would like to honor Professor Franz with a gift to this endowed scholarship contact the Advancement Office at 1-800-755-2287.  The scholarship will be awarded to students pursuing a major or minor in mathematics.

Culver-Stockton College Homecoming 2011 Theme/Logo Contest

Students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members and friends of Culver-Stockton have the opportunity to submit their ideas for the 2011 homecoming theme and logo. The contest begins Feb. 14 and will close on May 6, 2011. The goal is to get everyone on campus and in the surrounding areas involved.

Our homecoming game will take place on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011. The Culver-Stockton College Wildcats will take on the Missouri Valley Vikings. The winning theme/logo will be selected by the homecoming board and will be the basis for all events throughout the week-long homecoming celebration leading up to the game. Past themes include “Blue Express,” “Wild with Pride,” and last year’s theme, “True to Blue.”

The person with the winning theme/logo will choose one prize package from three various prize packages offered. Prize packages include, but are not limited to: iTunes cards, Flip video camera, restaurant gift cards, Culver-Stockton apparel and a pair of tickets to all events during the week-long homecoming celebration. The winner will also have the chance to serve as a judge for the homecoming parade.

Send your homecoming theme/logo contest submissions to: cschomecomingcontest@culver.edu or mail them to the Culver-Stockton College Alumni Office, One College Hill, Canton, MO 63435. Art work submissions must follow the criteria listed and be included as an attachment to the e-mail.

All files must be at least 300 dpi and will only be accepted in the following formats: jpeg, pdf, bmp or tiff. Once a final selection is made all original files (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) and links must be sent to the Alumni Office at cschomecomingcontest@culver.edu.

Deadline for submission is May 6, 2011. The contest is open to students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members and friends of C-SC. Only one person can win for an entry. If more than one entry is submitted with the same (or very similar) theme, the winner will be the first submitter. The C-SC Alumni Office will determine and notify the winner by May 13, 2011. All entries become the property of Culver-Stockton College and must be family friendly to be considered. Beyond the prizes awarded, the winner will not receive any compensation for the use of their theme submission.
