The opportunity to participate in decorating the White House grounds for President and Mrs. Obama’s 2010 Halloween party was a very special honor for this Illinois-based family business. Five members of the Condill family (Bruce, Mac, Ginny, Buck and Shana) drove a rented U-Haul truck to Washington DC to set up and staff a world class cucurbit display. Bruce & Mary Beth (McDonald) Condill, Owners, are both 1965 alums of Culver-Stockton College. Growing nearly 300 varieties of pumpkins, squash and gourds, The Great Pumpkin Patch represents the ultimate celebration of cucurbits. The Great Pumpkin Patch is located on the 200-acre McDonald-Condill family farm in the heart of Amish country in Arthur, Illinois. The farm has been in the McDonald-Condill family for over 150 years and is where TGPP owners Bruce and Mary Beth (McDonald) Condill lived, farmed, raised their children and started the business of “growing a few pumpkins.” Bruce and Mary Beth, twin sons Mac and Buck, along with eldest brother Kit and their wives have each contributed expertise, creativity and hours of loving labor to evolving The Great Pumpkin Patch into a very special fall destination in Central Illinois. Visit www.the200acres.com for more information.
