Christian Lahens was a Food Service student who graduated our program in 2015. Christian is a sensitive, gentle and soft-spoken young man. During his tenure here in the food service area of the Monmouth County Career Center, he quietly listened, digested and accepted instruction and information about the culinary field. Christian was an integral part of lunch service. He was calm putting out orders and proved very consistent working in a team atmosphere. Christian overcame his weaknesses with speed and confidence through his desire and persistence. A perfect example of his growth in cooking and technique was in the making of a French Omelet. When Christian was nearing the end of his last marking period with us, he was tested on his cooking skills and he made his omelets to perfection. His growth and confidence were on full display. Christian is a proud young man. It shows in his appearance, his desire to persevere, and his continued successes to improve himself.
After graduation Christian applied and got accepted into the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean County’s Culinary Training Program. This program is connected with many agencies in both counties such as the Boys and Girls Club, Soup Kitchens and Restaurants. With hard work and determination he was able to successfully complete the program on December 4th and graduated. Christian was able to receive his Serv-safe certification, which will allow him to be placed at multiple job opportunities. Before graduation was completed, he was job shadowing a sous chef at the Ocean Place in Long Branch.
Christian was able to be successful due to his hard work and determination despite his learning disability. He has a supportive system with his immediate family and his second support family here at the Career Center. We could not be prouder of you Christian!
Congratulations and job well done.
