INTERNSHIPS

Below are some excellent winter/spring internships. Internships provide real world experience to those looking to explore or gain the relevant knowledge and skills required to enter into a particular career field. For more information about any of any of these opportunities, please contact Russell Lennon, Director of Career Services at russell.lennon@csj.edu.

Rutland Community Cupboard (RCC) - Marketing/Communication Assistant - Rutland, VT - In the last six months, the RCC has hired a new Executive Director and moved into a newly acquired building on River Street in Rutland. The Board is interested in taking appropriate steps now to secure the future and next steps for the Cupboard.  As they start to discuss and figure out exactly what that is, the idea of someone to help them with marketing and communication of the RCC is essential.

Though the RCC has specific needs of this student, they would want to make sure that they are giving them an opportunity they can benefit from in their learning and apply to their future interests.

The House of Power (soon to open) - Business Start-Up Intern - Rutland, VT - The House of Power is a place where motorcycle enthusiasts can find historical information, advice, insights, resources and inspiration that will contribute to their own love of cycles and enable them to share this love with others. Interns will assist with the following duties:

A. Business plan

a1. research products that we can re-sell in our store

These items need to align with our brand and appeal to our audience and be a varied price-range.

This is a large task. I’d like to do a thorough search and narrow it down. We will be defining our brand through the products we sell, the content we put out and how we present ourselves here in Rutland.

a2. Crunch the data to see which items are more profitable - how much inventory we can purchase for launch

Plug this information into our business plan

a3. Research the industry - see what is already out there and find how our voice can be different

I have already started this, but it is a work-in-progress. It would be great to bounce ideas off of a critical thinker to make sure I am not in love with my idea and therefore blind to it’s weakness.

a4. Look into other revenue streams, beyond retail. e.g.: motorcycle tours

What is our competition - what is the price point - what do we offer that is different? - Why would someone pay for our tour?

B. Social media strategy

b1. Help fine tune our social media strategy

I have already started this, but could use some help creating content, analyzing what is already happening and mapping out a full strategy.

C. On-line strategy

c1. Help me map out our website strategy

Information Architecture - how to scale it - SEO - web analytics - e-commerce….

There is a lot of work to do - still some fun strategy planning along with the nuts and bolts of market research. If you have a student that loves motorcycles, even better. Work that is driven by passion is always the best.
