Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

AMCMS has two AEDs on campus. Cardiac events in public schools have primarily been shown to be in areas of physical activity; one AED is in between the coaches office and the other is next to the nurse's office.

The AEDs are mounted on the wall inside of a case. The case remains unlocked at all times and the AED is just as accessible as a fire extinguisher placed in a wall location. The case has an audible alarm and a flashing alarm that goes off when the AED is removed from the case.

The AED is fully automatic and all that is needed for proper use is to remove the AED from the case, place the pads on the person to be revived and follow the instructions given by the AED. Anyone at anytime should be able to use the AED if needed.

AMCMS has a team of trained First Responders who are trained in CPR and the use of an AED.  If there is an emergency on campus, the First Responder Team is notified to show with the AED.

AMCMS practices AED drills in order to have a better coordinated response to medical emergencies.
