Policies and Media Center User Covenant

General Circulation Policies

  • When can I go to the media center?

    • Mon - Fri 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

    • Any time, with a signed media center pass

    • Extended hours on some occasions

  • How many books can I check out at a time?

    • Students in grades Pre K-1 may check out 5 books at a time (these books may not leave the school).

    • Students in grade 2-11 may check out 5 books at a time (these books may be taken home, if they are returned on time).

    • Only 2 mangas/graphic novels may be checked out at a time. These books cannot be renewed.

  • How long can I keep my book?

    • Students are expected to return library materials on time, which means:

      • Within 2 weeks (14 days) for Grades PreK-5

      • Within 3 weeks (21 days) for Grades 6-11

    • Students may renew books ONE TIME for 2 additional weeks if needed.

  • Do I have to pay if my book is late? What happens if I lose or ruin my books?

    • There are no fines for late books, but students may not check out any new materials until overdue items are returned. Fines ($2 per book) are only charged if a book is lost or irreparably damaged.

    • Students with fines totaling $20 or more may not check out books until their balance is brought below $20.

    • Notifications about fines for lost or badly damaged books are shared with families at the end of each quarter.

  • What are my responsibilities as a media center user?

    • When a student checks out a book, it is their responsibility to return the book on time and in good condition.

    • Fines ($2 per book) will be charged at the end of each quarter for lost or severely damaged materials.

    • Students with excessive lost items or fines ($20 or more) will not be able to check out more books until lost items are returned or fines are brought below $20.

Media Center User Covenant

  • All CSE students and families are asked to read and agree to our written Media Center User Covenant, which communicates user policies and expectations. Once a covenant is signed and on file, families do not need to sign a new one each year. View the user covenant below.
