Dear Fifth Grade Families,
It is a pleasure and a privilege to be teaching your children this year. I have been delighted with their eagerness to learn and look forward to a great year. I am also eager to partner with you, the parent, in the religious and academic formation of the students.
The theme I have chosen to emphasize this year is personal responsibility. Research supports the notion that the fifth grade child is developmentally prepared to take on personal responsibilities such as doing homework, taking care of a pet, and assisting the family with chores. They are also capable of demonstrating courtesy, manners, respect, kindness, and stewardship to their families, friends, school, and church communities. It is vital that we allow children to be responsible for the choices they make and accept the consequences those choices bring. It is my hope that together we will celebrate their achievements and guide them when things become challenging.
