VARSITY RECAP
The Mustangs' triumph over the West Leyden Eagles was not just a win, but a display of their dominance. The team was ahead for the entire game, making for a decisive and formidable victory. The Mustangs showed grit and willpower from the first kickoff to the last whistle, demonstrating a resolved mentality that led to their win. Their dominance on the field is a testament to their skill and hard work, making us all proud to be their supporters.
Our Mustangs' victory was a team effort and a showcase of individual brilliance. Kayden Smith, Keon Maggit, Daniel Mensah, and Aiden Kanazawa scored thrilling touchdowns, each adding their unique flair to the game. Cameron Kasper's consistent catches and an interception at the end of the third quarter were instrumental in leading our potent offense. And let's not forget Colin Pierce, whose recovery of a loose ball put the Mustangs back in control of the game.
The Mustangs defense held Leyden to only one touchdown with impressive performances by Dylan Smith and Tayshaun Austin. Antoine Hardin was effective both ways, with several hard-hitting tackles and an interception that ended the game.
This fourth consecutive conference victory was won with toughness, energy, and intensity. The Mustangs solidified their spot at the top of the West Suburban Gold Conference. Their next game is against Proviso East HS on Friday, October 18th, at 7:30 p.m. They are ready to continue their winning streak.

SOPHOMORE RECAP
The Sophomore Mustangs, a team of resilience, traveled to Leyden Saturday morning for a sunrise showdown! The Mustangs, undeterred by a goofy schedule, were ready for the challenge, and the fantastic week of practice showed. The Mustang defense, showing their resilience, started the game by shutting down the Eagles early, often leading to their first shutout. The offense, a testament to resilience, was dominant as well, punching the ball into the endzone 5 times leading to a final score of 34-0. Leading the way for the Mustangs was Forest Bates with 4 Total TD's (3 rushing & 1 Receiving) and Alex Claiborne added a receiving TD for the Mustangs also. James Sobkowiak, a symbol of resilience, helped lead the Mustang offense, completing many 3rd and 4th down passes for the Mustangs. The Mustang defense, a display of resilience, was anchored by Dre Cash and Mason Knorr, while Vincent Junkas added an Interception for the Sophomores. Great work and HIT HARD!
Offensive Player of the Week: Forest Bates - Scored four TDs for the Mustangs this week and is leading the Mustangs in TDs during the season. He has been a reliable rusher and offensive presence for the Mustangs week in and out. He leads the Mustangs by example by always coming to practice ready to work despite the many bumps and bruises of playing Running Back!
Defensive Player of the Week: Dre Cash. He has been working since summer camp to earn a starting position and has been getting better each week. He has helped stabilize the defensive line while the defense has been dealing with many injuries to the sophomore front seven. Dre had a big game against the Eagles with two tackles for loss and multiple tackles.
Special Teams - Zach Barnes - Stepped into the role of Long snapper without skipping a beat and has been helping the Mustangs out on all 3 sides of the ball throughout the season. Zach has played running back and linebacker and has been on almost every special team for the Mustangs this season. He is a great teammate who always tries to work hard to improve the team.
Practice/Scout/Teammate—Dylan Dziewinski—Dylan joined the Mustangs this season and has been eagerly learning many different defensive positions to help improve the team. Dylan has contributed on defense and multiple special teams the last few weeks but is always jumping in on the scout team to help out wherever he can. He is a great teammate who can always be found bringing out and cleaning up equipment at the start and end of practice, doing the little things to improve the team!
The Mustangs are excited for our last home game of the sophomore season, this Friday at 5 p.m. against the Pirates! HIT HARD!

FRESHMEN B RECAP
On Saturday, the Mustangs played Leyden High School in a physical game that lasted all four quarters. Thanks to huge plays from multiple guys, the game ended in a 14-14 tie!
Our offense was led by Rj Barnes and Gavin McCaig, who connected on multiple passes down the field, one of which led to a touchdown for the Mustangs. Kam Lewis also chipped in on the offensive side when he broke away for a 40-yard rushing touchdown in the second half!
Defensively, our team played great, giving up only one touchdown to the Eagles in the final 2-minutes of play. Henry Pennycoff and Colton Robertson led our defense. Pennycoff was a force on the defensive line, leading our run defense with multiple tackles during the game. Robertson snagged his second interception of the season and helped lead our secondary unit to a stellar performance!
HIT HARD - THEME OF THE WEEK
HIT HARD THEME OF THE WEEK- DISCIPLINE
Discipline for a high school football player is a cornerstone attribute that underpins success in all aspects of their athletic and academic pursuits. As an athlete, it manifests in maintaining a rigorous and consistent training regimen, adhering to proper nutrition and rest protocols, and pushing through physical and mental challenges. This self-control extends to being a reliable teammate, consistently following team rules, maintaining composure under pressure, and setting a positive example for others. In relationships with coaches, discipline is evident through precise adherence to instructions, maintaining a respectful attitude even when criticized, and consistently meeting or exceeding performance expectations. Among fellow players, a disciplined athlete encourages high standards, avoids distractions, demonstrates patience in skill development, and helps enforce team norms. As a student-athlete, discipline is crucial in maintaining a structured study schedule, prioritizing academic responsibilities alongside athletic commitments, and consistently completing assignments on time. This approach to discipline not only enhances on-field performance but also cultivates essential life skills such as self-control, time management, and resilience. By embodying discipline in all these areas, a high school football player contributes to a culture of excellence and prepare themselves for success both in their immediate athletic endeavors and in their future personal and professional lives.
